Does have that magical sound to it although the last few years that we flew from there the racing was really bad.

Bluedoo

I believe that it was because of the lib site was full of wires and therefore not suitable for liberations.

Saw in BHW that RPRA were trying to get Rennes and Nantes re-opened for racing.

But also remember reading a couple of years ago SNFC wanted to fly from racepoints further east in France, so I'm not sure if the recommended racepoints will change.

there is allways been something special about rennes but as gareth said the latter races were nothing short of disasters and given that we have had good/fair racing from alencon/reims etc i think it might face some oppositon

Only partly true Gareth. The main problem was lack of amenities at race point ie water etc. Tam McEwan reported back to SNFC committee that he didnt favour Rennes, and although we had flown it for many years, we had better race points we could go to.My proposal at the time was to go to different race point maybe just outside Rennes, but still call it Rennes as it was known to all the general public as well as all pigeon fanciers.

Crazy ! 4 channel races within 21 days, dont see why they cannot be spread out over a period of 6 weeks instead of 3 and thus giving the members a chance to send there pigeons to 2 channel races per year and extending the golden period of the Distance racing calender a little further than just 3 weeks.

i thought with the lanarkshire  not  deciding  where  they are going  till the national has,  who will be ferrying the pigeons and that makes our race eastbourne instead of maidstone is that right

Spot on Gareth & Chris. This program is flawed in the way it condenses the season for the distance pigeons.  If the program was spread out and staged to encourage more birds to go back to a 2nd channel race then the entry from the earliest race would be recycled into the later races. If we want to have 4 channel races (and I'm all in favour of that) then there should be 6 weeks between the first one and last one to allow recovery time and the opportunity to set up a new breeding cycle for the natural birds.

In horse racing the program is staged so that a pattern of suitable races can be followed. They don't stage the 2000 guineas one week and the Epsom derby the next week and then the Irish derby a week later. They know there is a finite number of horses to compete in these classic races and they are laid out in such a way that the horses have a chance to recover from one and be prepared for the next one.  We should be thinking about the gap between races and not just shoe-horning them all into a 4 week window. Whats wrong with having a channel race in early/mid June as we used to do very successfully ?

There is still a lot of "ifs and buts" also you might well find that there will be additional races put on by the fed depending on the SNFC race program, i mean whos to say that the SNFC are definately going to have 2 inland races..

Bigda,

I think you'll fine plenty of 2000 guineas runners who go on to run in the Derby, whether they win or not is by the by although plenty have including New Approach this year - short headed into 2nd in the 2000 and went on to win a Epsom. The point is that if they were staged a week apart then the trainers have to choose which race to go for rather than run them in both, hence the fields would be smaller and the depth of quality would diminish. By having a gap between the races they can 2 attempts at winning a classic. Sensible wouldn't you say ?
