Guest IB Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 I'm in neighbouring Falkirk Council in legal services that do leases amongst other things. I know that there is a fair sized compound leased from the Council just down the road from me, the guy has 5 lofts on it. Think its around £100 per annum, but remember thats just for ground, he put in services and fences, and he does all maintenance. That compound has been there for at least 20 years, so leases are for as long as you want. I'll double-check lease period & rent tomorrow.

newbold Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 all councils are diffrent my rent for year is £8 but its going up to £10 this year
BLACK W F Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 i was£100 per year and had a yearly rental with 6 months notice to quite by council this was a fair size piece of ground out in the wilds cheers Alan
Guest IB Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Spoke to solicitor who deals with Falkirk Council land leases : (1) lease term is negotiable, as long or as short as you want; (2) the rent is determined by the Council surveyor. The example given is a 0.039 hectares plot (big enough for a couple of big lofts) leased for 5 years at £204 pa (3) you also have to meet the Council legal fees and these depend on the amount of time spent on drawing up the lease; (4) council advice is always to consult a lawyer to make sure the lease suits you, so you'd have that fee too; (5) there's a clause in there which says that Council can re-negotiate the rent after a given period.
