dazza Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 Hi all. I just wanted too sound out opinion on the following. I am a mortgage adviser for my sins and as there are no products to advise on any more i have looked at other options. I will be trying something in addition to my existing business but something that could well have benefits to the sport. For every fancier that changes their energy suppliers and landline telephone 2% of their monthly spend will go back in to pigeon racing, in what format i don't know yet and am open to suggestion be it a race or to provide ets equipment, for charity or a proportion coming back to this website. To put some figures to this if 1000 members converted the above and each spent roughly £100 per month across the 3 utility bills above that would bring in annually £24,000 per annum which is quite a tidy sum of money. The company in question provide the services all on 1 bill and guarantee to be cheaper than the likes of BT, Npower etc. I only want to get some opinions from you guys as to whether you think it is worth pursuing or not. So that everyone is aware and i am not hiding anything i will be paid 3%. Cheers Dazza
REDCHEQHEN Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 People are reluctant to change suppliers I've done it once and found it a hassle - it took months but I'm currently happy with what I've got
dazza Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Thanks for the feedback, if no one is interested then fine, i just thought it would be a way of getting some money back in to the sport without it coming directly from everyones pocket if that makes sense. dazza
cemetary Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 Too much hassle, change from one company to another thought it was cheaper, then another guy came around a couple of days later saying that the company buys it from them, so i just chase them from the door all the time. Takes a while to get things fixed out, am oot.
bewted Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 so roughly speaking,,,for the same 1000 fanciers your getting 3% so that will take you well into £36000 per year then,,,,am i right ?
Guest Vic Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 One ought maybe too many, But get lost.
bewted Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 One ought maybe too many, But get lost. vic,,,how can it be one nought too many ? explain please ?
dazza Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Ok forget it - wasn't looking for abuse, though probably should of expected it.End of thread. Bewted no it would of been £36K in total.
bewted Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 ok mate...i hope you was not thinking i was giving you abuse,,,,if it sounded like it sorry it was not meant to !!!
Guest spin cycle Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 don't stop trying dazza....you are an ideas guy and so you know that it takes hundreds of good ideas before a workable one emerges. i'm amazed that you've no mortages to sell...i thought the problem was lack of demand
dazza Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 There is demand unfortunately the buy to let products have all but disappeared and none of the lenders want to lend more than 75%. Nothing will change until they start doing 90% lending again. Dazza
retired Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 I am happy with my suppliers but the idea in general must be worth looking at for you. I dont see a problem with your 3% and £36,000 a year - thats your business. I get made redundant from my main job on New years day morning, the new job i take on is hourly rate plus commission on top and i wouldnt do it for less than 10% - (Maybe im just greedy though) All the best with whatever you do
dazza Posted December 8, 2008 Author Report Posted December 8, 2008 Vallance first of all i only posted to see if there was any interest and if anyone thought it was worth looking at. I just see it as we all pay our bills and get nothing back whereas this way something goes back in to the sport. In terms of what i would be paid it isn't 2% for pigeons and 3% for me it is 3% in total, i.e the one percent left would probably cover my costs and time. Looking back at my first post i probably did not make that clear. To other individuals or businesses i will take the full 3%, i was just willing to put back 2% into pigeon racing. The idea of putting it on here was just to get some feedback as i would think that there would be a good cross section of the pigeon fraternity on this site. My thinking was that if there was a consensus of opinion that it was something worth looking at then i would approach each ruling body and discuss it with them as it would not be for me to decide where the money was spent. As the responses have been mainly negative, maybe it was a crap idea and that will be the end of it. Best of luck with the new job! Cheers Dazza
Guest paulrstokes Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Dazza I am an IFA and can understand your current situation. However with the onset of websites such as yourswitch, moneysupermarket, motley fool etc, most people are researching and doing this themselves already. Just my opinion
Guest Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 iam fed up with people bomebardimg me with change this and that this is a pigeon site and dont think this stuff should be on here in any shape or form someone else trying to make a quick buck from us we must be a right soft target
john@formula 1 lofts Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Dazza- for what it is worth i think this is a good idea not sure why everyone seems to think it is so bad to make money at the moment, we all have to eat and pay our bills. I do plenty within the club that i race in for free as that is my hobby but i do not go to work for free and do a days work and say keep the money to my boss, i guess some people must by some of the reacations people get, i think the fact you are willing to set all this up so people can change supplyers and save money themselfs and then you are willing to give 66% of what you earn back to the pigeon sport deserves a pat on the back not abuse. JMO John
Guest Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 john with all due respect dazza asked for comments and thats what he got but i do give him credit he did not hide anything but i feel that some come on here and use this site only when it suits there pockets thats not what this site is about in my oppinion
dazza Posted December 9, 2008 Author Report Posted December 9, 2008 Frank Paul John thanks for the comments the general feeling is that most see it as too much hassle. If i thought that there was any momentum behind it i would do it for nothing providing i wasn't out of pocket and it didn't take up too much of my time. Cheers Dazza
john@formula 1 lofts Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 john with all due respect dazza asked for comments and thats what he got but i do give him credit he did not hide anything but i feel that some come on here and use this site only when it suits there pockets thats not what this site is about in my oppinion Totaly agree frank it is all about helping each other i do not know Dazza but sounded to me as if he was trying to help the sport. have to agree some will always take the pi*s given a chance
dazza Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 Hi John wasn't any intention to take the p**s as i've stated before i thought it was a way of funding some aspect of the sport without asking members directly for cash or raising subs etc. Its not a problem it was only an idea, now consigned to the bin. Cheers Dazza
john@formula 1 lofts Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Dazza i was not saying you were taking the pi*s far from it i was saying it was a good idea. I was just agreing with Frank that some people do. in no way was i suggesting you was one of them all the best John PS i still think it is a good idea
