Peckedhen Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Tobacco stalks. Barley straw - floor sweepings - they are short lengths so don't get tangled around the hens legs, causing them to pull the eggs off the nest. My birds choose Silver Birch twigs which they carry back into the loft from the garden.

Guest asha Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Just leave your loft open and let the birds build there own, you`ll be suprised what they pickup,i had 1 nest made of nails must have been close to a hundred of them, keeps the birds very fit at the right timr if you use your head, saves training.

ryesway Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 There was a big issue with the black nest felts early this year, babies dying in the nest. If your going to use nest felts better to go for the coconut coloured ones. thanks for the info tony will keep it in mind cheers
ryesway Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 what about just putting some course wood shavings in would this be ok ?
