I will be using straw this year. Just pop it in the microwave for a few seconds ive been told.

my birds love pine needles we go gather them when they are dry after they have fallen the longer the better

i use straw but first put it in a bin bag and put some lice powder in with it

give it a good shake and leave over night .

ditto dublin lofts nothin creeps and crawles around in the nest when you use tibacco stalks

I will try heather and pine needles this year and monitor.

Both are obviously free.

what about nest felts do any of you use them

 

There was a big issue with the black nest felts early this year, babies dying in the nest. If your going to use nest felts better to go for the coconut coloured ones.

I once had a friend who used Potassium Permanganate in the drinking water twice weekly. He flew well.

He said of Potassium Permanganate "it's excellent but it's not expensive enough to be popular"

I always remember these words of a true gentleman.

I worry about the tobacco stalks as I cant hardly afford my own chewing tobacco and if my birds got addicted Iwould even incur more expense

although they might hurry home for a dip of redman !!!

  scraping lofts is bad enough but I dont want to have to clean their spitoons as well !!!

Yes microwave kills the bugs, but the lice powder does the same thing.
