pjc Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 i asume when you say boxed up they are paired? After this time they should be on eggs, if not they may be suffering a calcium defficiency or another underlying problem! Phil
newbold Posted December 27, 2008 Author Report Posted December 27, 2008 hi phil i thourt that my self so i have given them some sea kelp tablets one of the hens is this years?bush x camil phil
pjc Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 put a spoon of milk in the drinkers and chit some wheat for ravoflavin.
PIGEON_MAN Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 iv checked them all over as i say they look perfecked they get minerals and grit in feed pot they have bean in box 2 weeks Can I ask why they have been boxed up for two weeks,if you are pairing them up let one pair out of there box at a time say for 30 minutes, lock them back up then let the next pair out, stops them getting stiff and also gets them used to where their boxes are.I sometimes let all the cocks out for a few hours lock them back in and then have the hens out, saves a lot of problems when they have layed if they know which is their own box.
pjc Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Have any of the hens laid? If not then something is wrong but as Tony says they should still be allowed a certain amount of freedom.
newbold Posted December 27, 2008 Author Report Posted December 27, 2008 they are all out of boxs now,i usely leave in boxs till they lay then let out, yes phil a part from yearling . i keped in boxs longer as swaped some of them about, and dident want any truble in boxs
sapper756 Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 Sounds like calcium deficiency, slip half a calcium tablet over their throat, you can buy these from the chemist. I sometimes break one up onto very small pieces and dissolve in the drinker
Guest kev d Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 being locked up for two weeks in boxes will do them no good what so ever they need space to strech there wings they need there muscles building back up . i remember a few seasons ago i sent to the nfc saintes race they brought them back to messac from basketing to liberation they were in the baskets for ten days i sent four got four . but them four birds were never the same after that
gangster Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 i use dog calcium tabs broken in half does the trick...
Guest Silverwings Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 are the hens a little overweight seen this loads of times ,they wont make it back up to the box for a few days after laying ! best to get the weight down before mating the driving process with the cock is the natural way of doing this !! being boxed ha cant drive her and deprive her of her feed .....ray
REDCHEQHEN Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 i use dog calcium tabs broken in half does the trick... indigestion tablets (antacid) from superdrug or Tescos own brand are less than a pound for 48 and are all calcium carbonate - break in to quarters - morning and evening for 2 days
