Apathy in the sport?

I think it is sad that people of age are put into one big categary. I am seventy now, and I do not really like it. And I try not to act as per the sterio type you have put forward. For the dolees. I have always worked, sometimes it has been two jobs and long hours. I have always thought that to be unemployed was a mark of shame. Just two years ago I got an "A" level and I am currently on a computer course. In my spare time I am doing a French Course. I have never been prepared to sit at home scrounging and complaining, I hope I have had too much pride for that. Frankly, I can not stand the lazy sods who do.

I to have been sickened by the Pigeon Club Set. They talk about the past all the time and refuse to accept modern ideas. And yes you're right they will kill the sport. You only have to read the magazines to see what sort of idiots we have to put up with. ETS has been a good example.

I have a head full of ideas I would like to discuss with go ahead people with the energy to follow through. Unfortunately, just like the rest of you, I have got fed up of trying to push water up a wall. I feel that there are not enough of forward thinking people in any one place to make a differance.

Hi Owen then why dont you post them on here, where they can be discussed. Thats what this forum is here for. Hopefully you will find the like minded people on here.

Well we all see it clearly and 99% let it slide when they wish.

Had stacks of 'Great Causes' on here galore. Stacks of views with fevour ... only to dwinddle into a sad decline when asked to 'Put up'..

Had many up in arms about this and that or the other .... just to fissle out when asked to 'Stand up and be counted'.

Love as many quiddies as the 'Let's Do' that are quickly forgotten when they have realised it 'Meant THEM'!

Sad to say, many promote great ideas... that fall by the ewayside when Him/ her / or Anyone else' doesn't take up the guantlet and run with it.

Sadly indeed is the fact that most utter soothing sounds to tickle the ears, but have 1000's of excuses and reasons why they won't or can't.

Too many, true are the moaners and bulet makers, and too few, or many of us thrice bitten, and still hope... hope that just one day ... eh!

But then we fall out of bed and wake up with a bump!

Should be an unwritten rule, 'Only put forward what you are prepared to see through'! Would be much put up I'd wager.

Roland I'm now one of the 'Stand up and be counted' brigade, I was voted in to sit on the London Regions council at last weeks AGM.

I put up this poll to help me see where its all going wrong or starts to go wrong and I'm delighted with the response, please keep the posts coming!

I would like to ask the members on here if they or their club have tried to make a general rule change for it only to get defeated or kicked out at club or a higher level and the reason given if known. If no reason was given why do you personally think it was kicked out.

Regarding attendance at club meetings i am the first one to say that democracy should be preserved and the only way to do that is to be part of it and attend meetings, and i am not proud to say that i no longer want to attend. My father was chairman of our club for many years and i have sat through hundreds of meetings growing up, going over and over issues, but that was then and this is now. The members i grew up around have all reached a certain age together and no new blood has come in to keep things fresh. In my fathers day in the 50's, 60's, 70's the age range in the club was very wide from children such as myself through to old age pensioners but now the demographic predominantly consists of people over 60. Sadly this is one more thing the sport has going against it this is not to say that people of this age range are bad members or do not have good ideas, or that just because you're a bit younger that you know best. I just think that in any organisation a healthy mix of ages and ideas can only benefit the sport this is where we need strong leadership to try and change the demographic, and before someone says why don't you do something about it then ? I arranged a visit to my local school and organised a small race from the school playing field i used the club ringer and 5 rubbers, but i heard through the grapevine, not to my face you understand, that some people were not happy about me using club equipment, so even when you do try some members will always look for the negative. This is a fantastic sport i and love my birds dearly but the politics will kill the sport and i for one wish to enjoy its last remaining days before it becomes unviable and unworkable, i do not want to argue with old men who on a one to one basis have been very good to me they are for the most part my fathers age, have health problems and i was brought up to respect my elders. Perhaps it is me who has the problem and it dosen't help when my alarm goes off at 4 in the morning every day and then having to attend a meeting on a friday night after a hard week, perhaps my loss of the will to live in these meetings is down to my tiredness, but i am happy in the conclusion that i will see out the twilight of pigeon racing meeting free and a lot happier for it. Sorry for the rant!

know how you feel ,im waiting for the propersistions to arrive ,im told the best two propersistions so far are

1 ,turn the club around and fly a different route (by none flying member)

2.keep membership closed we dont need anymore members

i cannot wait too see the rest of the great propersistions to take us forward for another year .

bloody hell another kitchen meeting taking place ,how does he know what has been proposed
