jimmy white Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 had a van loon pigeon win very well [multiple times up to 350 miles] didnt send it any further , because of this
Wiley Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 best van loons in there day were the Planet Van Loons, destroyed all sprint competition
jimmy white Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 best van loons in there day were the Planet Van Loons, destroyed all sprint competition this was a planet bros van loon ,, a son of a pigeon i bought called" dilligent " this bird itself had won very well, but also bred some very good pigeons [that particular son of dillegent won me about £3000,, and it was a late bred ]
OLDYELLOW Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Van Loons will do up to about 420 miles and are a good honest pigeon so i'd say sprint to middle distance John Williamson of Bolton and Williamson ( of Bridlington ) told me they could do 500 miles but not in a head wind
Roland Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 You know, one season Jansenn - the dad - sent his birds to the furest races and excelled, winning big time. But didn't like the waiting around etc. So his older family birds at least scored well.... And seem to think thatthere was always a 'Core' of these birds in his loft. Have for years believed that Middle distance - Distance birds a myth. More system I believe. Golly just look at the Buesarts excelling at the distance, AND this was once thought an impossibility as they were only (Supposedly) good to 400 or just over. they have again and again proved themselves... Many did the 1000 miler from Rome for instance. etc. etc. So Van Loons will respond to the task asked, if your managerment, and more importantly the birds - like all pigeons - adopt and like your SYSTEM!
pjc Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 ONE OF THE BEST JANSSEN BASED BIRDS AROUND AND STILL ARE HUDSON AND LOWE HAD SOME GREATS I OWED ONE FROM THERE FAMILY.AND STILL HAVE A VAN LOON BASED FAMILY. Terry and Roger got rid of all there Van Loons in the mid 90's, i had some latebreds of there top racers before a lot went to Japan.
wayne77 Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 I think the van loons are great breed, if crossed into right family 500 miles no problem. My best bird flew 500 twice on day(one14 hours 20mins) he was from Van loon cock(diect out of Frank Aarts Vice president) x Stichbault. Also the late great Derrick Fenwick of Shotton North Wales excelled at 600 miles with the van loon, I bought a grandson of his original van loon at his berevement sale. Think this was Planet brothers. So if not too old I would try them.
Guest Paulo Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Like all pigeons good and bad. Great pigeons for crossing if you get the right ones
Wiley Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Like all pigeons good and bad. Great pigeons for crossing if you get the right ones if you get the right pigeons of any strain there great for crossing
terry mccarthy Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 the silver shadow van loons will go from the start to 500 plus and harder the better
DeDarren Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Planet's Van Loons are still winning big time throughout the UK, and there are still many good sources, Mick McMurchie, John Windsor, Paul Newbold has a lot of stock via the now defunct Ranmoor Lofts & as Old Yellow pointed out, there is Bolton & Williamson to name just 4. Oh and then there's Planet Brothers if you only need hens! The original base of the Koopman family is in the main Janssen & Van Loon, making them the perfect foil to pep up an inbred Planet line should you feel the need. Gerard Koopman regards Louis Van Loon as his 2nd Father which may give some idea as to how much time he spent at the lofts of Van Loon during his pigeon education and how important a role Van Loon's pigeons played in the make up of one of the finest family of middle distanse pigeons around today, IMO. They are intelligent, honest as the day is long, easy to condition as they are a small-medium type and will score throughout the programme.
