Guest Vic Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 95% of a council housing estate, has been demolished south of my loft position. I am presently infested with rats. I normally sort them myself, but some of these super rats are gnawing through Thermollte blocks. I called the Council Vermin crew in , and they have set up some poison trays. Do you think I wil get shut? Well done! the Reds! Today! If Tony sees Joe Cossy, give him my regards. LOL
gangster Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 you will need some steel traps as well vic.....
maverick Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 if you have electrics in your loft one of the plug ins works just like a plug
pjc Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 get a couple of good terriers and keep your lofts of the ground so nothing can live under them!
cowman Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 rats are clever ive had a problem from the hedge row behind my lofts holes in loft etc put down a tray of sleymore poison and 2 rat traps with peanuts glued onto the plate . day 1 all poison gone and 1 rat in trap day2 all poison gone and 0 in trap day3 half poison gone none in trap day 4 half poison gone none in trap day 5 no poison gone none in trap notice a pattern only had 1 trapped the other left the traps for the bait well its been 4 days now no holes in loft no bait gone from dish so hopefully got on top of them now but always keep bait down if the rats have an easy feed outside the loft they wont try and get into your loft for food .

fletch Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 my garden backs onto the park and before i had my loft there was a problem with rats going in and out of neigbours wodden garage so we both got a kitten rat problem gone but the kat wont leave the loft alone. sits at the front of the aviry liking here lips, any ideas how to stop here..
cowman Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 keep the bait going it dont kill them streight away they bring all their mates for a good feed then die after a few days . if you have dowels on your lofts or air gaps at the top like blakes lofts wire it up the bloody things will get in anywhere.

LOL After that result I reckon Joe has also vacated the premises and gone to ground, when I catch him next I'll pass on your message, he's sure to take the bait
badgeman Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 This will sound daft but it works ,find someone with ferrets and put down some ferret s___t ,they wont come near it also works with cats (they will only lick it off once lol) but unfortunately will discourage wild birds from your garden too.

Good point, I had a problem years ago when I lived out in the country I actually went and got myself a ferret and when I cleaned it out I would scatter some round the loft every now and again kept them away. Paul.

jimmy white Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 ;)do you still have the ferret now Jimmy ? would have thought would be useful still . andy. yes ,had ferrets most of my life , still have 2 at the moment
Gatorman Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 I would have to agree with a few of the replies that have been given. Get some ferrets around you and a terrier. I can recall having problems ourselves but once the ferret's went under the loft they (being the rats scattered) not before the ferrets actually getting some of them. We experienced no problems afterwards and we even bought a Jack Russell to deter potential cats also and he worked great. Good Luck.
les Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 crumble digestive biscuits and add peanut butter and soak in antifreez ,keep puting it down untill your problem is solved.cheap and efective.
Guest IB Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 anyone know if a cat will kill a rat? Used to live next to a railway line; next door neighbours cats seemed to like dumping their rat kills in my back garden.
