Guest Paulo Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Well campers I have returned and had a great time and learn't a ton about pigeons. Was most impressed by:- 1. Dieracks. Jenny was keener than most men when it comes to pigeons. Lovely birds and when you asked her for advice she was more than helpful the interpretor had a job keeping up with her. She reminded me of my gran a proper pigeon woman whose passonate about her birds. didn't get her birds as she had no young uns available 2. Maurice Matthews. Maurice is a pigeon racing god simple as. Had a nice setup and definately isn't a mob flyer when you look at the size of his operation. Was very pleasent I wanted a young un but they were a bit strong on the wing so told him and he took me in his race loft where the cocks were finishing a young bird each off and let me have my pick. Cost me 10 euros more but a class young un. 60 euros in total. He had a good sale and even gave away his old clock and tropeys. I was at the back of the q so got nowt lol. 3. Romain Legist. A lovely bloke and some of the finest pigeons I've ever seen. Big bull heads on them and perfect racing bodies and just sheer class. He had no young uns as well which was a shame. He also had the best cakes and biscuits. Those above were what I would deem real pigeon men and women. Showed you all their race birds and stock. No pressure on to buy and good crack and passonate. Also all the blokes had their loft gear on and you could tell they had been in the loft doing stuff when we arrived. Also modest setups. Was least impressed by:- Deweert. He was a pleasent enough bloke but he had a huge setup with must have been other a thousand pigeons there. His prices were well inflated for all his pigeons even though he admitted he hadn't the best season this year another lad where he lived was top man this year I asked for his address but he just laughed and wouldn't tell me. He had a lot of co-efficent results to show and that was all. Liked the look of his pigeons in his race lofts which he had two but you could only select to buy out of about three aviarys full of stock birds some of which were considerable age. He gave us a load of sh** about how he didn't send to the last race for the averages cause he had nowt to go. Well if you have a loft full of 1000 pigeons I'm sure you'd find something to send. His prices were very very dear he wanted 200 euros a young bird and the old birds were dear. A bloke next to me picked one out and handed to me while he went for another and deweert came over and must have thought I was after it and started giving me some sales patter. It was a direct daughter off one of his national winners carl and six years old and he wanted 750 euros. Call me old fashioned but I could be mike tysons son and it doesn't mean I'd be a good boxer the bird had won nowt itself talk about daft money. Just for the shock he gave me I had to have another one of his cakes and cans of coke to calm down! Asked him about treatment and at first he said he didnt treat for anything at all not even canker. I wasn't going to have that lies through and kept catching him out. He finally admitted to treating to canker once a year and he once had respiartory and consulted his vet. Don't get me wrong he's had success national racing so must know one end of a pigeon from another but he just seemed another businessman type with lots of wonga to chuck at it and no passion for the birds. He also showed you sweet fa part from the overpticed birds he wanted to flog. Nice cakes and coke tho we wasted far to much time there and didn't have much time at maurice matthews who was much more interesting and better crack. As for Van Hoacke top man and that good crack and very pleasent young uns weren't too bad at 100 euros as he had a good year but he's another big business man with a loft manager at the end of the day.
Guest Paulo Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Brought five young birds back. 1. Maurice Matthews 2. Van Dycke Natural Breeding Station 3. Soonjen Natural Breeding Station 4. Lier market 1 5. Lier market 1 Was lucky cause thought it would be a bit boring with going on my own but got talking to a few lads on the bus who were good crack Brian Simpson of B&K Simpson fame and his mate Dave and two lads from scotland steve and gus. Had a great time on the night with a few beers and the pigeon crack and got a lot of decent tips. Brian helped me pick a few out at the lier market as well with some good buying tips. Class trip if the credit crunch hasn't took me out next year I'll go again
