As part of the conditions for a grant our Club have received, we have to provide information to the community.

We have to show that we have provided the information to both young people and women. In addition to all that, we are going to have to show that we are prepared to help to set up those who are interested in keeping pigeons. It will be a big challenge but, if it comes off, the pay off in membership, could be pretty impressive.

One of the lads was saying the other day that there could be a sting in the tail. Women are often very good at taking care of livestock and young people can grow to be very keen. It could mean that us old fogies will be under pressure to win the odd race.

sad but true there are very few women in sport, less on pigeon forums, can count them on one hand dark_chequer   :(

I think alot like to show birds rather than race. But in genral women are in the back ground, Ive lost count of the post's ive read where the guys admit if it was'nt for the women in their lives they would not be able to race,

I came across one such woman on the phone, she did so much to help her husband, as he was unable to do most of it himself. She admitted that she didnt like them in the early years, but they kept him out of the way lol ;D ;D.But since she has got more involved she would'nt be without them. Now seeing them as her quiet place. So ladies if you race/show or prefer to stay in the background good luck with your birds.

And guy's thanks for all the advice and support you give us ....................amanda :)

My own wife takes more than a passing interest in the birds and has a fantastic way with them, also and having known a woman who kept and raced pigeons on her own, for some strange reason I believe birds respond better to a woman, cant really say why,if its their demeanour,or manner or what, birds appear to more approachable, more at ease, calmer, pity really that there are not more women involved, especially at the top tables, think Sport would be a lot better for it.

The pigeons are mine and my OH has nothing to do with them (if he can help it).  I'm still not racing despite many folks trying to persuade me to...I don't think that I could stand the stress of loosing them. ::)

and me but i still havnt started racing them yet  i got started when a stray adopted my garden shed a couple of years back and its just gone on from there (the strays still here) im like pecked hen and would worry about losing them if i raced  them  the furthest theyve ever been is 50 miles and i lost one then ;D  debbie :)

the ratio for woman keeping pigeons against men, are very low, however the  few  that do keep them ,seem to  make excellent fanciers , and have better results than men :'( :'( i,e, [in ratio] ,,, woman seem to be far more patient , are far more thoughtfull , regarding the racing or the keeping of pigeons, [ and have far more common sense ;D ;D ooooh ;D that hurt, but never the less true ;D ;D ;D]

I  did fly with my late husband who passed away Feb 2006 and then the birds were auctioned off as I could'nt cope as I was working, but now I'm semi retired I started back in the sport last young bird season with a friend of his who had'nt flow for over 25yrs and I really enjoy everything about it even the cleaning out .
