Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 can all the people in the know on this forum send me via pm your 5 (or how ever many you have) reasons why pigeon racing will be no more in a few years time with your reasons why and what you think should be done about it. will be interesting to see how many people take the time to do it.
REDCHEQHEN Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 there will always be pigeon racing - even if it was banned
OLDYELLOW Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 if its never a sport ill still do , it if i couldnt fly for money i'd still do it , if it was banned i'd still have my pigeons , nothing would stop me doing the thing i enjoy the most
pjc Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 no reason it should dissapear, fuel costs etc will continue to hit but fanciers may go back to milers!
OLDYELLOW Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 i think it would end up with the channel been split in to milages and you will probably be able to choose which point you send to as a individual , and baskets / birds be transfered before they go across water on ferry creation national racing , as for most feds transportaion could be shared and birds be put up in sections as the U.N.C do , if the Unions did any running they could sort this out but we are still at finding the flint to create fire in pigeon racing terms
pjc Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 Single, central marking stations instead of little clubs dotted around!
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 maybe a worded the thread wrong i see some many arguments on here about this and that and then so many comments on what should be done about it i relise not every one can be happy but seems to me the majority are un happy so why is nothing ever done. if these people in power are to blame then why not get rid of them as there clearly ruining pigeon racing as a whole
OLDYELLOW Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 there will always different opinions and people that wont get on with others and if they cant win in one club they split and form another , as a new comer you would think that we are all wanting to race our birds that much is true but some wont fly amongst the best , each town could be divided into sections to allow for disadvantages in overfly ectra but you would still get the odd one or two saying that its unfair ectra. Amalgamating clubs into marking stations would reduce the small clubs and would be the way forward , but the breakaway clubs wouldnt want it as they like it the way it is
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 im starting to see why this is in decline its slowly sinking in

Couldn't agree more Damian. Politics are what are killing this wonderfull hobby of ours. Not transport costs, feed costs, losses. Just the plain old trouble makers that have nothing better to do than sit and plot their next argument. It happens in every club. Regards Damian
Guest Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 can all the people in the know on this forum send me via pm your 5 (or how ever many you have) reasons why pigeon racing will be no more in a few years time with your reasons why and what you think should be done about it. will be interesting to see how many people take the time to do it. Whilst I don't think the sport will die out altogether, I do feel it won't be far off it! My reasons are as follows: 1. Apathy. 2. Age. 3. Politics. 4. Organizational Bad Management. 5. Low Mentality. 6. Petty Jealousy. 7. Bad Members. (Hooks, Con-men, etc) 8. Costs. 9. Heinous Crimes. (Lofts burned out, pigeons killed off, etc) 10. Raptors. I suppose there will be many more reasons! What can we do about it? ............Just for starters................. 1. A full re-write of the sports rules, possibly being governed by one union body only! All rules to be set in a sporting manner, ie; if you are in a clubs boundary, you are accepted automatically without a vote being taken. Only way entry to a club can be denied is by it being proved you are an undesirable character / defaulter, etc. Only Voting in, on no more than a two or three year contract of managing officials. Then these people will stand or fall by the quality of their work / acheivements made. 2. A Save Our Sport Campaign, a Fund, starting with as many yearly countrywide sales to take in money to help OURSELVES. The monies raised to go towards a media campaign promoting the sport to try and reach out to new members. Also, to assist new starters, and fanciers that have suffered heinous crimes as mentioned above, on the understanding that should the people assisted sell up in the future, a substantial percentage is paid back into the SOS fund. The fund should be managed by a committee of "voted in" people from within the fancy, that have a good business acumen, and are of a trustworthy and ethical nature. All monies taken in and expended to be accounted for. This idea was mooted many many years ago, but as always, APATHY, the worst disease by far in the pigeon fancy, killed it off! I'm sure that this idea could be extended upon, and would go a long way to preserving our future, but, we have to reach out and go for it, TOGETHER. United we stand, divided we fall, and we've been falling for quite a few decades now!
just ask me Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 another thing is pll flying different ways loads of clubs being set up in the one town as inviation clubs these should be banned one club one town only use the union rules there is no need for clubs to set up more rules maybe one or two but if u go down that road it just gets stuipid have seen clubs where the commmitee is set in stone where a member has to leave a club or die for another member to join and members haveing no votes at anunnal meetings all this carry on is what ruins pigeons
Guest scoobybob Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 I started racing pigeons right at the beginning of this year and knew no one who kept pigeons. Bought some stock from members of this site for breeding and first thing I done was join the RPRA and purchased rings for the young I was about to breed. I then find out from the RPRA I have also to join a racing pigeon club to race the birds. Bloody hell where will I find a club I thought. I go to local pigeon shop and informed about the local club. So give the secretary a ring and ask to join. I then find out I can only join in January at the AGM so I just missed the joining date and would have to wait a year. I mention this on this site and got reply’s saying join another club and arrange a meet at another race club, I go to the next race club and site in the lounge looking at all the pigeon pictures but after sitting for 2 hours in this race club pub and not a sole coming in, I then decided to knock it in the head and give up the idea of pigeon racings. By then I had about 40 birds but did manage to give them all away without the need to cull. I really think when joining the RPRA they should allocate you to a club in your area. Trying to join a racing pigeon club was what I found most stressful. Especially not knowing anyone in the area and being new to birds.

The sport is in decline and we shun new members..unbelievable. The fanciers in your area should take a long hard look at themselves. Then again some thrive on less competition particularly those who are only really concerned with selling...a load of club wins sells birds but who are they beating!!! some mug new-starter will no doubt be conned again.
