Guest 67ghirl Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Kieran my 12 year old Son has just attended his first Club AGM and I think he's attended more grown up meetings at the School!!!!! They are trying to impose a 20 Bird limit on all races - but send as many as you want as trainers - but due to the fact the Proposal wasn't seconded they have admitted it couldn't be decided tonight so they are going to organise a 'special meeting'. There are only a few members who send over 20 Birds so it's easy to see who they are getting at. Kieran's Dad pointed out that this could mean Kieran may have the first Bird home but wouldn't get a ticket for it!!! (This could also affect his application for Young Fancier of the Year) They reply from one member (a Grown Man apparently) was "do you want us greeting (crying)" In this day and age and the Dying Sport what encouragement does this show to a Young Lad?
frank-123 Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 is there not another club sorry to hear this bird limits are crazy have they had a grant from awards for all
OLDYELLOW Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 limits do nothing but increase the price for everyone else , hope you dont get an limit , jelousy will be the death of this sport
fletch Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 more the merrier for me i can honestly understand why people say clock only x number in to allow other members to take prizes but stoping birds being enterd in races is sheer stupidity, it can only raise cost as mentiond above, is there not another club for u to join has these people (so called adults) are not giving the right signs for your son and other new/ younger fanciers who want to become intrested in this dying sport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can remember when i was 11 and first really came intrested in my dads pigeons i looked forward to going up the club on friday and saturdays were i was treated as an equal and encouraged!
Guest Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 If the club couldn't get a seconder for this proposition, chances are the proposer is in a minority and it wont get passed. Fingers crossed for you
REDCHEQHEN Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 If there was no seconder - that means its thrown out surely
Guest Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Technically Yes you are correct. I think I am right in saying that without a seconder at the AGM the matter should not have been discussed.
Guest 67ghirl Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Kieran has had nothing but praise and encouragement from the Guys on here and in fact any places we have visited!!! Last Season he was even ringing the Birds at the SNFC Marking, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Most people go out of their way to make a fuss of him - usually while ridiculing his Dad - but unfortunately not from his fellow Club Members, bar a few.
Williedoo Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 If it was not seconded, the proposer will have to wait till next years agm and try again.

Fingers crossed for you Unfortunately not - it's just they don't appear to be aware of Rules, just the way they've always done it!
Guest Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Your son is a credit to the sport, and I think he is sensible enough to ignore the self centred minority, that seem to think that they own these clubs. Normally these people who can't get there own way and soon move on to try and disrupt elsewhere. Kieran IGNORE THEM MATE
alex wight Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Shocking Angela i hope it works out for you all. Why are some people hell bent on ruining our fragile sport, alex.
Williedoo Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Must be the good flyers in the club that send more than 20 or nothing would be said. Or is he trying to save bad flyers from waisting their money, dont think so.
pjc Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 if it get brought in through the back door then take it to region!
Guest Freebird Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 So are they proposing you can only send 20 birds (nominated) then the rest are just for training? Are the trainers going for free or a reduced rate. Don't race now but when I did I certainly didn’t send as many as twenty birds. Don't want to offend but surely twenty is plenty. This would certainly cut out the MOB flyers and I'm quite sure your son could pick out the best twenty from his group of racers. Just my thoughts and I certainly do not want to offend anyone. What in your opinion has caused this to come to the fore in your club? I have seen many posts from you regarding your son and I take my hat off to you and the lad ( takes me back to my youth ) for having the pigeon passion so I hope it does not upset him too much. If it does get passed, Kieran should look upon it as a challenge and be more intent on studying the birds form and prove to the MOB flyers he knows his stuff. This may actually be to Kierans advantage. Whatever the outcome I wish the lad success and I'm sure you will be proud of him no-matter what. Regards, Chazz.
pjc Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 When i moved here the club had a 10 bird limit, you could send as many as you liked but could only nominate 10 for club honours! The club was won most weeks by trainers. All birds, trainers or noms went forward to the fed etc but only nom birds got club cards. We got the rule deleted, the old sec threw his toys out the pram and left, now every bird counts but we do have a clocking limit which stops big team flyers filling the sheet. Again all birds clocked can go to the fed but it gives others a chance and encouragement to keep trying.
elanco Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 what fed is this club in , 67ghirl. its a cracker. ;D ;D ;D

It won't affect him so much during the Old Bird's it's when it comes to the YB's - especially at the start of the racing, although he fared well re losses last season - obviously with the OB's he will know what they are capable of, hopefully! The only reason I can see for this is Jealousy - Kieran did well for his first year and was delighted with his £76 winnings! The trainers I assume are at the same price as there was nothing in the proposal to say otherwise. And Yes no Matter what he will always have my Support and Praise
Guest Freebird Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 O.K. suppose it was a horse race and there were 10 entries, 9 of which were owned by the same person. Bottom line if an un- nominated bird comes first you don't get a card but you still won ( I take it you can still clock all birds regardless of nominations ) if you can't then I'm against it but if you can and know where your bird came in then surely that is all you want.

Yes and no! :-/ For example if he applies for the Young Fancier of the Year he can't put down should have, would have or could have, the bottom line is it doesn't count. Similarily if a Bird was to go on and win a National he couldn't give info for a write up saying 'well technically it Won a race but has nothing to show for it. Hypothetical I know - but fingers crossed - unfortunately if a limit is brought in then none will be sent as trainers and they will just have to be rotated as racers. It's more the principal, why should a Bird who has flown well be denied a ticket.

Guest 67ghirl Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 LOL It's just a good job he didn't have ETS at his first YB race when 25 dropped together!
Guest Freebird Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Well, what one do you pick from the bunch? Obviously the first in but they are all there at the same time so just pick the nominated birds, Yeh!
Guest 67ghirl Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Maybe so but the majority of these Guys, in this club, pushing for this limit have ETS systems which were provided by a Grant. Kieran uses an STB.
Guest Owen Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I recon that is always better to fly in a Club without a limit. More money to be won. ETS brings a real sense of realism to it all. Because the birds are automatically clocked, a lot more are counted in the result. This means that people who were once kidding themselves that they were, say 10th, are now way down the list. There's no doubt that some people can't take the truth of where they really are. In our club one guy has been taking all the positions some weeks. Not long ago he used to be congratulated after a race. Not any more.
