Guest strapper Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 there are minerals in the soil you wont find in a mineral bucket. different soil texture will have different mineral content.

harky Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 some of mine will pick about in the ashes from the fire. my doos love the ashes from a fire but i always make sute there is nothing burned in it with a lead content like plastics as this poisens them , coming back to micks pigeons it could be a salt imbalance

Guest youngzimmy Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 YOU MAY NOT KNOW WHY THEY DO IT BUT I AM SURE THEY DO ON THE UNLIKLY CHANCE YOU HAVE A TALKING PIGEN KEEP SCRACHING YOUR HEAD AND LET THEM GET ON WITH IT
micko and jack Posted March 6, 2009 Author Report Posted March 6, 2009 no clay block ? ;D ;D ;D ;D they may need some salt what would be the easiest and quickest way to get salt into the birds
aye ready Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 giving pigeons too much salt is a sure way of bringing on a thirst then they drink too much water which causes them too scour a balanced mix like matrix or other a little per day sorts out all these problems. I hear fanciers saying its too exspensive but if u add up the price per item of clay block,black/pink minerals, salt lick, grits etc i know which one i'll buy

Chairman Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Old Yellow is bang on, SALT as contained in clay blocks and also Matrix I would add a quarter of a teaspoonful to a galley pot full of black mineral once they have took their requirement you could possibly purchase a salt lick from a farm store or a corn store that supplies horse feedstuff, then leave this about the loft in the case of prisoner stock or outside the loft where rain can wash and keep it clean. There is a small shortage somewhere but once they have taken what they require you'll find they'll leave it alone until the next round of youngsters.
Guest Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 an old fancier once told me to cut up a bit of sod from the garden (not the lawn or the wife will go balistic ;D ;D) turn it upside down and put it in the loft and the birds will go mad for it as they get some minerals from it that we cant give them dave ps-would make a right mess of your loft :'( :'(
