Guest Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 What nest felts is he using, just a thought the black ones have anecdotaly caused deaths among squeekers. Does he have an insect problem, has he dusted his box? Sorry can't be more helpful
Tony C Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Its a new one me and would be interested in knowing what’s the cause. As a long shot could the parents be pulling these flights? It would go along with your thoughts of them being deficient in something. If its a possibility try giving them some Vit B12
Guest youngzimmy Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 if it is a mite problem i sugest using togacco stalks fpr nesting meterial
pigeonpete Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 hi i would say at a guess without seeing, either mites, nest felts, or even to much inbreeding, if there is no problems with any others, i knew a fancier who for 3 years paired very closely, and started to get feathering problems?? hope of some help, but hard to say without seeing.
Guest IB Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Sorry, can't picture what is happening. Are the feathers dying off, or are they being thrown? Any signs of damage to them? Feathers are still growing there's still a blood supply there, are the birds nests or boxes bloody?
ransom50 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 its got me beat to, the secondarys take some pulling out even at that age,but these are just falling out tail as well,

Guest Freebird Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 i think they mite have alapeesher hair loss feather loss That is a good point and I believe is caused by STRESS. Is there anything going on around the loft at the moment etc.?
thunderboult Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 how many flights is each bird losing, what's he feeding them . is there any chance they're moulting them cause the lofts dark(i don't use dark system but heared yb's start dropping feather's straight away on it).
Guest Freebird Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Good read Tony. Looks like the answer.
Blue Chequer Pied Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 This is a common problem in breeding Budgerigars. In Budgerigars it is known as French moult and there are no definate answers as to what causes it all kind of theries mind you the most common one being that it is a viral infection. in some cases the feathers start growing back right away after they have dropped and in some cases thay dont grow back properly. The birds are affected in different ways, i.e some lose flights, some flights and tails and some even body feathers. I realise that this is totaly different to pigeons but I have never heard of this in pigeons before. It might be worth getting them tested just incase it is a secondary problem. Paul.
