i have a yearling hen that laid a rubber egg 1st round (just one egg) let it sit a week then lifted it away to put it back down, after 8/9 days laid a rubber egg again then within the hour laid another rubber egg. they have grit minerals pickstones are out just about every day so have access to the the garden (picking around)  i have the odd yearling laying a rubber egg maybe its 1st ever egg but this baffles me , never had anything like this in 32 years ANY IDEAS?

i had a stock hen i bought in as a yearling she did the same

laid a round of eggs without a shell i let her lay again and the same thing

tried giving her calcium made no differance the next 2 times laying

must of been something wrong inside so was no use for stock

if your raceing her slip her an egg or 2

there was all the usual minerals and grit in front of her

i've only ever seen one before, i put it down to a freak of nature. for some reason the eggs missing out on the hardening process. maybe were the eggs attached inside the hen, there's some kind of problem and she's dropping the egg before finished forming. i'm only guessing sorry.

right with you a soft egg had a old hen do it  earlier on had plenty of minerals ectra thought see was at end of laying shes laid since , but it was dam cold when she laid the soft egg like rubber no real hard coating ;) but agree with thunderbolt egg came out prematurely ;)

I had a roller hen a few years ago and that was all she could ever lay, tried calcium and all sorts but she never managed a proper egg.

Ive got a hen here that is laying mishaped eggs with a course shell, they are even slightly over size. Tried 3 rounds so far but no use, she is about to lay again so fingers crossed as I am really keen to get a few rounds of her.

the last egg she laid looked like a hairworm egg/lemon (the best way i could describe it ) egg shaped and on the ends like a bit of soft skin dangled off it

well she'll either be knackered or not , id leave be give a few baths she should go down again if taking a long while see may be barron, hope not ;)

i have had her separate from her cock for a week and let her back in yesterday, she's paired to one of my black of dromore stock cocks , who's 13 yr old trying to put a bit of vigour into the youngsters with her being a yearling , and she is an absolute cracker , she has everthing i look for in a long distance bird , with a great pedigree and all

fingers crossed should be getting warmer seems to help ;)

i had something similar few tears back , and what i did notice one day after standing in stock loft dreaming , having a smoke was the cock was relentless on the chase ,never gave her a seconds peace , so i put grit tub in her box ,and bingo it worked next round were perfect

seems to be a reasonable cause for it if all minerals are there ;)

If you have a hen that repeatedly lays soft-shelled eggs it sounds like there is a physical defect in the 'egg works'.

The shell is obviously the last job done before the egg is laid, but it's not a quick job, application & hardening takes 24 hours.

i beleive this to be qute right ib,, i had a hen repeat this laying of un-shelled eggs, many years ago,, the bird never ever laid a shelled perfect egg,, all the others were allways fine,, vets advice exactly the same,, "the birds laying machinary not right",,,,,if i had a few doing this , would be more inclined to find out the reason then,,,
