ALF Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Anyone use a steel shed for a loft? I think it would be a tad on the roasting side during the summer mick would it not?
pjc Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 if you were to use one you'd be best off insulating it and linning it with ply to prevent it gettting to hot in summer but they don't have good ventilation.
OLDYELLOW Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 and get damp so more ventilation and loads of insulating
just ask me Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 also condensation wouldn't be great either wet spots all over the place also there would would be a big temperature change during the day i suppose if well insulated it might help
chris h Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 if you build it from composite panels it will be fine all year round and put a few window sheets in the roof
just ask me Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 got there before me oldyellow ;D ;D ;D
retired Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 an idea i have thought of over the last few weeks is possibly a old portakabin as these aint that dear and look like they could convert well. Off topic slightly but maybe food for thought.
OLDYELLOW Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 also condensation wouldn't be great either wet spots all over the place also there would would be a big temperature change during the day i suppose if well insulated it might help aye in like a robbers dog ;-)
chris h Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Put a couple of these in it you wont get any damp i have erected plenty tin sheds and there not damp.
Guest Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Chris no worries had crossed my mind too. The sheds i saw today were insulated and have a non-condensation coating, to be honest i was amazed! Better than the old corrugated one we had some years back. Obviously controlling or maintaining a good enviroment was my main concern too, thats why the question.

just ask me Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 i would imagine to hold some sort of consent temperature would be hard i belive with widowhood cocks its a big thing with them if u can get past that there shouldn't bee much problems
Guest Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 have a look on here mickb http://www.steadmans.co.uk/ thanks Chris. the ones i looked at today were a 40mm thick panel insulated with kingspan.
jimmy white Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Anyone use a steel shed for a loft? had one in the past,, no good,,,,,needed to much work done to combat condensation, and heat regulating,in my opinion would be , far better, and cheaper in the long run with a wooden loft
