Guest bigda Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 hi guys i will be doing a write up shortly as i am in the parent council, for my sons school, and was looking at it as it is about time the schools should be told about pigeon men and women, and what we are about in Scotland, we have for the last 20 years, given to a charity known as the heart foundation, was wanting to know what sort of money we have given over the years, to the charity, a sensible figure is all i need as to be able to quote and a rough figure across the UK as to what the pigeon fancier supply annually to good causes, as i dont think there is Manny like us when it comes to Charity's would be grateful if you could give me some ideas as will be bringing this up in the schools after the summer in take in Aug, awile away i know but this thread can run till then and all the knowledge will help others as to see, where charities have gained should they look in on this site

Ian McKay Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 Hi Danny As you know I and a lot of genuine pigeon fanciers have raised £5,000 for the school sale for 2010 This is a drop in the ocean Wonder how much all pigeon fanciers raise in a year we might get a shock Cheers Ian
Guest bigda Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 you have done good work there Ian, hope you flurish, is there a bigger giver than the pigeon man out there with the least amount of publicity not that we look for it but the charities that receive never make it public well i have never seen it in the news paper :-/
Guest bigda Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 Surely you mean yer grandweans ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D yes have them too :X

Guest numpty01 Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 yes i think youer right if everytime a good cause was helped and papers were told so they could put pic in it would open a few eyes to fanciers that help thousands of causes every year but sadly it dont happen
Guest bigda Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 well keep posting in here, and ill see the school get to know where we come from and they will be told to look into sites like this for conformation of it
Guest numpty01 Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 good idea and that way word will travel i have in last month helped 3 charitys with donations i like doing it thats why ;D ;D :P i did ask seller if he would give two youngsters to sell to top up one donateion but he never bothered to reply to my pm
Guest bigda Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 yes this site alone can say this year if the total is given to each good cause, then tallied up each year, to add to other pigeon men's support given to charities, then we might get the monkey of our backs, and the rspb wanting photos with numpty 01, and me, and you all ;D ;D ;D hair combed and looking sophisticated
jimmy_bulger Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 to get back to the original post. if you were to work on the assumption of £10.000 a year over 20 years you would not be far off the mark. jimmy

Novice Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Several years ago Ayrshire members raced from Penrith every season for the "British Heart Foundation " Trophy, As far as I am aware the trophy was presented to the fed and we were charged 1pence per bird to compete----compulsory. The cash was donated to this charity. I am not sure whether we still compete for this trophy or not but I could check. I suppose past Federation records would show how much was donated if they are still available.
Guest bigda Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 just keeping simple records on here of charities amounts that you have given to, or herd amount raised by pigeon men, as there are a few hawk men come on here and i wouldn't be surprised if the rspb didnt come on at some time in the year, well he can then he can read and see the pigeon people are the most generous type in the world when it comes to charity.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 Have said few a few years now that every sale that is held within the pigeon sport should pay at least 15% to a "save the sport fund" this to be used to promote the sport to new fanciers. Yes i know there is is no where at present for the monies to be sent to but it is about time that the governing bodies in the UK wake up and smell the coffee and get something sorted. :-/ Cheers Gareth PS Around 80% of the population of the UK no absolutely nothing about the pigeon sport, so think of the possible numbers that could come into the sport if they promote it in a proffesional manner.
jimmy white Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 the anthony no;an bone marow trust ,, got this
