alec guinness Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 Totally disagree with you, venue was far superior to Newmains in every way.Plenty of room to observe pigeons in pens , bar in hall for refreshments, good parking etc etc .The Newmains club knocked us back for their premises as the sale was during racing season. Incidently, I didnt see anyone at sale from Newmains and surrounding areas.I have to agree with IB, if you want a yb , you will go anywhere to get it. The only disappointment was the lack of support from west section fanciers but thankyou to all who donated birds. good point delboy, myself i have attended snfc sales and quiz panels in all parts of scotland and like you i feel there could have been more fanciers there particulary from the west section, the venue is first class and was also free!! i think the days of big prices at sales are changing fanciers at this time of year fanciers would rather buy a youngster with the intention of racing it,myself i had a younster whose parents have 5 national certificates between them in the sale including first section gold cup and was happy that someone got what i believe to be a quality youngster for a sensible price, the question of location was raised,a gentleman from dumbarton got a train from glasgow to airdrie and then a taxi to greengairs as he had earmarked 2 birds, well he came away with 4 and was delighted, well done wee mick great support for your club.good sale, good venue, good birds, good company, well done to all. :) :) :) :)

The venue is fantastic, location as it transpired was not that good, but to be truthfully honest young birds at this time of the year are not worth much more than the £67 that they averaged even in a non recessional climate and it would have been no guarantee that these cracking youngsters would have made any more in a more centralised venue, latebreds sales are that little bit different as this is the time of the year when people start looking at what's going to be in there stock loft for the following year.
Delboy Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Thats right, wee Mick went out his way to get to the sale and this shows the wee mans commitment to purchase the best birds he can. I think this is already paying dividends as he was 1st and 2nd section yb national last year, with only 3 away.
gangster Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 i think a big thanks should go to everyone who helped set the snfc sale up and the donaters of the birds and those who supported it........

Yes Gareth, the timing of the sale definately needs looked at. Birds averaged £67 but that was boosted with the likes of the one off the Gold cup winner. It was a buyers dream and a major chance was missed by many to boost their stock at a very low price. I got one off a 1st section 11 th open for a quarter of its worth.

Delboy Posted May 4, 2009 Report Posted May 4, 2009 Who purchased our lot??? THINK IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN YER BIG PAL
Guest bigda Posted May 5, 2009 Report Posted May 5, 2009 i think the timing of the sale had a effect on it, on the day as there was a football match or 2 on that day, not to mention who they were, season ticket holders or die hard fans control there own destiny, as it only gets the wrong response should any one mention it but its only my opinion, the union should have given thought about it, as to get fanciers there in bigger, numbers and its nothing to do with religion, its was the importance that people place on there free time i think it should have been held mid march before the season started and the birds would have been ready in time mid April, and the money raised would have surpassed expectations for the quality that was present, its my opinion only and hope you see it as that only, and dont take anything out of it that might offend
