Full of what?

the heading of your thread say it all (what an idiot) the bit that got me was the trees were bent double, and its pi$$ing down, if i was a doo and you put me up in that i would'nt be coming back even if i could. my birds are trained in reasonable weather from about 10 mile or not at all and we can still do ok against around 1000 birds top 10 1st 3 races, so there's no need to torcher your birds like that no simpathy here im affraid.

point taken mate, didnt want any sympathy! i learned a hard lesson, of which i am very sorry for the birds sake.

One of my favourite sayings is " the man who never made a mistake, never made anything " What I like about you is your honesty and through this story other people can learn so it has not all been in vain. I also think that the birds who were fortunate enough to make it will have a better chance to deal with bad weather during a race so all is not lost. Who can blame you for being over enthusiastic given the race results. The main thing is you have learnt a BIG lesson and your birds will benefit in the end. Good luck in the future.

p.s. get the wife to kick yer *expletive removed* cos she'll enjoy it(evil)

cheers for that, and she is only just speaking to me now!

and thanks for eveyones responces, they have been taken on board!

Don't think you made a mistake. I think you, like most blame yourselve regardless because some were lost. Chances are strong that they would have been lost sooner than later any way. As for tjhe wires.... Got one her that has been skinned big time under the breast , right the way across and to the tail. Treated her of course. But they were released in a field with no wire, obstacles etc. etc. Yes I feel for the bird. First I knew was when she got of the nest and the eggs were stuck to her. Time consuming and very gentle using soap warm water I cleaned her up. 14 day eggs boken and stuck to her. She is recuperating nicely...

So in spite of, crap happens.

Chin up, beat yourselve up if you feel better for it... But....

well folks, need someone to give me a good kick up the *expletive removed*, it wont change what i have done, but i hope someone can learn from it, this happened on tuesday and im still so mad with myself, o.k here goes, im at work from 5.30 in the morning till 6 at night, so find it really hard to get the time to get the birds as i want them, ( please dont any 1 feel sorry for me) anyway, first week of racing after alot of effort training most nights after work (weather had been okish) was 2nd club which i was chuffed to bits with flying natural, did the same the week after, weather o.k, was 1st 2nd 3rd club and 1st 10th 13th fed, over the moon first time for me on cloud nine. next week weather crap all week, hardly went out of the loft, as raining nearly every night after work. did'nt think it would make much of a difference! anyway was last in the club! did i sulk or what! so this week i thought going to make em have it this week, and the weather been crap! anyway took monday night bit windy and slight rain, training at 18 miles by the way! took 25 birds dropped 1 2 year old hen! just thought it was 1 of those things, heres the killer blow took them tuesday night was as black as the ace of spades, trees were bent double with the wind! took em to my 18 mile point, was still raining but thought that would be no problem! took 24 birds, realased at 7 p.m i got back at 7.30 and look across the pond, (was already thinking what have i done) lashing it down now and wind was very stong! 7.32 had 15 drop, got a further 3 before 9 when it was to dark for me to see and went home! next morning when my wife went down there was 1 waiting to be let in, thats 20 birds now, and by the time i got back last night, there was 3 birds there! all totally ripped apart by the wires, had to stich 1 of them up, kill 1,( which had won for me before) and the other no good for this season! im an utterley disgusted with myself, what i did was cruelty! and all for what winning a club race this weekend! i have learned alot this week. thanks for reading!

it looks like you have been flying for a good while now and you never new that could happen or didnt exspeted it to happen in strong winds and takeing them 18miles fome home, yes what a idiot obvously your birds isnt good enough in high winds

One thing I have learnt at great cost these two last seasons is 'Must realise that when introducing new birds you just don't know, nor understand their capabilities, strengths and weaknesses, or wether they will adopt to your system, take to your loft and further, what if any liberyties you can take with them. So it is very much a new learning curve again.

My old stock I knew I could do vastly different and more than with these. Knew that I'd built a team of Homers and hard / distance racers. These are very much an unknow quality to me, and have lost through expecting them to act, re - act the same as the old stock. This, I now firmly believe can't be done.

this is my fourth year now, and as regards birds not good enuff in high winds dont think was a factor! i was first fed 2 weeks ago doing 2037 ypm, i know im an idiot, but i have certainly learnt the hard way!

ps im not saying i've not made any mistakes i took 16 birds for a training toss last year and on the way there decided to change route unbeknown to me it was exactly to where my partner told me not to go lovely big car park at the top of a big hill in the peebles valley? stood there 5mins watching a couple of buzzards passing then decided to let the birds go i watch them fly right down the valley for about a mile then to my amazement they went from cloud level to hedge hopping 2 perigrins hearding them up and down the valley after ten mins the pigeons flew straight into a forrest i was in tears all the way home they were still coming home 7 hrs later but all home. what an idiot  (ps the weather was ok lol)

thanks amanda, yes she is well on the mend, i will be retiring her now anyway, she is 4 years old, and was 1 of the first birds i got off a member on here, he no longer flys now. if it wasnt for this i would have kept on sending her and probably lost her, and bin mad with myself then ;-)

i am keeping it nice no matter what i say on any of the threads at any time its not to offened.  there's lots of nice people on here and the last thing on my mind is to upset anyone so there you go, ps a wee wind up now and then does'nt hurt. lol we're all in this sport together and i dont expect any of us want to see the birds get hurt sometimes we ask a little much of them but hopfully we can all learn a bit from each others mistakes.

Good reminder for me I've been chomping at the bit to get my birds to a certain distance so I can start racing when the fallback races start and the weather has been terrible for two weeks......but I'll keep em' home till its good enough.......
