OLDYELLOW Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 quote=4434]Well i sometimes i put the hens and cocks together and take them away from them when i am basketing them on a friday is that a good idea or are they just tiring themselves out if your new and racing why wouldnt you know how to catch a pigeon seems if your putting your birds together and basketing your already catching them and training them :-/
gooner Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 this is a thread where some one is asking for help and yet again asha you have started making adverse coments about someone that is not constructive to the thread or any novice reading it, any new starter to this site will soon get fed up and stop asking questions and will soon leave the sport if all they see is people bitching at each other. if members have nothing constructive to say then they should keep off of the site

Unfortunately you will always get the odd "know-all-know-nothing" who has a lot to say and very little to offer. These people are all B*** S***e and hot air. pigeonboyno1, on behalf of all the descent members on here I apologise for the childish behaviour of some so called adults, pleased to see you act more like an adult then some do on here

tomm1e Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 hi i am new to the sport can anyone help me how to catch pigeons without hurting them darken the loft slightly. The pigeons are less likely to move around. Also use box perches rather than V.

blaz Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 pigeonboyno1 on this site you need to seperate the whet from the chaff eg whet oldyellow , tomm1e etc chaff asha ect
Guest IB Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Don't have the birds sitting above your eye-level, or have acres of space to fly round you or over your head. And its easier to pick the bird up from a box perch or a nest box. No sudden moves, or goalkeeping actions, just walk over to the bird, speak to it and pick it up. I think it's to do with overall tameness, calmness and trust ... and confidence in yourself - that all takes time. It will come in time.
Guest Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 to catch the odd 1//2 from a perch every thing must be done very slowly get in pos in front of the bird you want if you are right handed slowly raise your left hand and while the bird is watching it move your right hand over the bird to basket alot of birds fit a blind to the front of the loft and shut it to basket remember very slowly even in the dark if you chase/frighten the birds too many times they never forget it allways play with the young birds even in the nest they dont forget that and it makes it alot easer later on in life
Guest Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Keep them a little bit lean on the food and when you feed them, sit in the loft with them, and make them feed from your hand. That way you will be insilling confidence in the birds. When you put food in the hoppers for them, and they are feeding gently pick them up and talk to them. You will soon have your birds coming to you rather than you chasing them about the shed. Also when feeding them, whistle and the birds will become used to your whistle when out excercising and then when you whistle them in they will take your head off to get into the loft
fred x Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 If you have a any thing to ask PigeonboyNo1, you go for it.!! Dont mind OLDYELLOW, I think his "Bark is worse then his Bite". I don't think he ment any harm. Now Your Q. As some as said, Try to get them in a Nest box, or box perch, when they are trapped Slowly pick them up, never snatch at them, or grab them to quickly it will only ruflfle them up. Or give them one or two peanuts on the floor & pick them up as they are feeding. As OLDYELLOW said it all takes time.a
