Guest IB Posted July 3, 2009 Report Posted July 3, 2009 I did buy a few birds from there around 2001; other than one yearling hen, I lost them all on their first time out [let out one at a time]. Wondered at time if homing 'instinct' was actually a skill that could be lost over time if successive prisoner generations didn't get to practice it?

Wondered at time if homing 'instinct' was actually a skill that could be lost over time if successive prisoner generations didn't get to practice it? Old timers always said - especially when I first starter up - every generation of unraced birds lose a bit more of the homing instinc. :-/ Inbreed may well cock it up but their instinc to home when out crossed only, will never lessen. Maybe the zest to race , but :-/
