I always check the hen's pelvic bones when I put them together. I then delay putting the nest bowl in for two days, no longer. The bowl is a stimulant to laying so it will help the birds to go down. It is just the same with the nesting material, it is also a stimulant.

leave bowls out for now shweet, put birds in to pair , once paired off watch for cock cooing in corner then hen going to him, she will take the corner and start to collect bits for a nest, thats the time to put in the bowl, she will take to it and it saves you a lot of mess with straw and all the rest being thrown about,

shweet. if its new pairing youll have a mess , if you pair them in a box then yes have an upturned nest bowl so the hen can escape the cock, he could be aggresive, closed in if she doesnt comply then he could peck her bad, old pairing then no problem should go eggy in a couple o days with bowl up, good luck.
