flyin.couriers09 Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 I have had text messages, E-Mails, messages left on my phone people asking me if i was alive, dead, in prison, left the country, i have read all the comments on the couriers page and i apologise to those people who i let down last month so now i will tell you what happened. Firstly to all those people who knew and have sent me messages and cards etc i would like to Thank you all. On Friday 8th May i was on my way to a stray centre to collect a pigeon that had been found in Southport. This job was for Wayne77 on this site. I was approx 5 minutes away from my destination on the M58 when i had a accident. The accident was my fault as i had fell asleep driving my van. I have spent the last 4/5 weeks in hospital and for the 1st week Debbie and my family didnt know whether i was going to get through it. I came home last Wednesday and i am still not myself and i only have myself to blame. Lukily there were no pigeons or passengers in the van with me and there was 1 other person injured in the vehicle i collided with. I apologise for not phoning or texting fanciers who were expecting me that weekend but it was pretty hard as i was unconcious and my phone was ruined together with my van in the accident. I have thought about this and i am not going to carry on in this game on my own as i could have seriously injured somebody and myself and if it had been any worse i would not be sitting here now typing this to you all. I wish all the other couriers good luck as its hard work and i think its maybe too hard for little company's what fanciers need is someone like DHL or TNT to transport there birds. It is impossible to transport birds around the country within 24 hours as we tried it for 7 months and it all caught up with me and it nearly killed me. The van i was in was destroyed as part of it took fire. I am thinking of maybe helping one of the other couriers out if they would be interested i still have my other 2 vans left but if we did this we would only have our drivers driving for upto 9 hours aday. Plus we would only cover certain area's but that is something we would look into as for now we are taking time out to spend with our kids. I would like to thank everyone who stood by us and me personally am sorry as i really wanted it to be succesful and to help fanciers and for the time we did do it i hope you were happy with what we did. I wish you all the best for the future and i hope you get the service you deserve hopefully in the future we can help one of the other couriers. Wayne FLYIN COURIERS.

pigeonforce Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Glad yor ok Wayne , i totally understand the hours you were doing when i started up with my dad (David Thornton, Uk Pigeon Couriers) back in January there was only 3 of us driving Dave,Julie and myself, we managed to get all the pigeons there within 24 hours but to do this it was crazy some times with me taking a sleeping bag and getting not alot of sleep and then driving. so i totaly agree with you on the falling asleep at the wheel although i never did it, it could happen easy to any of us. Glad to hear your getting better and good luck for the future Daryl & Julie

We started with 2 vans and before christmas we had 3 vans and we were still struggling to cover what work we had myself and our drivers were driving atleast 20 hours aday its not easy. I had fell asleep a few times but only for a couple of seconds and you think it would never happen to you well i found out the hard way i have been driving for over 10 years everyday as i have been a delivery driver since i was 18 i have sat in my van on the drive and i was shaking so thats why i am taking time to see what happens . Good luck in your business if you ever need any help pm me and i will see what we are up to but please make sure you and your drivers take a break and get your rest. Good luck. Wayne

The important thing is not that we don't listen to advice, but that we learn by our mistakes. I could see how tired you were when you came to me on a number of occasions, and was always concerned for your welfare, and told you that. The good thing about it all is that you are on the mend and spending quality time with Debbie and the children. You didn't listen when I expressed concerns in the past, so hopefully you will take this bit of advice now. Make the most of the quality time you are spending with your family, it is precious. Time doesn't stand still, and before you know it, they will be grown up, and it will be too late to look back and think to yourself, I wish I had spent more time with them. Give my regards to Deb and tell her I would love to hear from her. God bless you and the family Bob

I know what you mean Debbie's freind owns a taxi firm up here he has school contracts so he doesnt have to work as much as most taxi drivers i have looked into doing it myself a few years ago when i took my redundency from Parcel Force but i got another job with Fed Ex. If you ever do think of doing it good luck to you mate. Wayne

I am going to take up people's advice like i say we are going to spend some time together and then decide what to do as we still have 2 of our vans left. We will see in time what is meant to be.
