distancer Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 What is the situation regarding club racing?. One of the local clubs near me had a race last weekend. Two members sent approx 80 birds. One member got 1,2,4. and 5 etc.I am now myself under the impression that it would be a waste of time flying in a local club as the numbers sending birds seems to be down to just a few members. I think the only decent racing for myself would be in the National and International races. What are your thoughts?.
Guest Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 send in the club ,the only way youll encourage others to join in . the amount of fanciers sending maybe a little embarrasing, however will be good experience for the birds if you do decide to send in any nationals . all the best with whatever you decide . andy.
Guest puresoontjen Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 the one that send 40/50/60 birds in club stand to win as some only send 6/12/18 birds. it only takes 1 bird to win i no but is it out of 6 birds or is it the one thats got 50 birds :-/ i would say the one that sent the 50. but it dont matter were you send clubs /nationals its the birdadge they send.
Guest shadow Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 use club racing as training for national racing that what I did :)
Tony C Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 I'd send regardless of how many are sending or not as the case may be. Club positions are only half the story, it can happen where you dont win the club and yet be well up in the fed or win the club and be miles behind in the fed. Base your performances on fed positions, your club is just the means to race in the fed.
distancer Posted August 14, 2009 Author Report Posted August 14, 2009 The only problem is that the cost of sending to a club with only two members sending is just not economical. I would fly pigeons for the pleasure of just racing them. But to send in a club that has only got two members sending seems to me to be a bit pathetic. I don't see by me sending to such a club would in anyway encourage any new members, because the club does have a few members but they are just not sending. Also I have visited the club on marking nights and there has been no one there.

Guest pigeon82 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 i kow what your saying but at our club today 6 members sent 40 birds thats how bad weve been getting hammered but our club has been doing well in the fed results alot of people have stopped already

PIGEON_MAN Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Our fed charges the club a minimum amount each week weather we send or not.
pjc Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 Ask the sec how many flying members there are? The club i currently fly with only has a 1/4 of the members racing yb's than were sending ob's. Some members just don't ever race yb's and others have had bad losses. Use the club to build your team etc give the birds experience ready for the nationals if thats your aim.
terry mccarthy Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 my club only 3 members sent tonight but that does not bother me as long as i do well in fed thats the result i look for
distancer Posted August 14, 2009 Author Report Posted August 14, 2009 Thanks for the replies, some good points there. From what I can gather there are a lot of clubs with good membership, but due to the problems today in relation to costs members are just not sending. At least the clubs will survive with the membership fees etc. I will look to next year now , and see what happens then.

As Tony said a lot of club members have to pay a weekly race fee wether they send or not but at the end of the day you can only beat the opposition in front of you.
terry mccarthy Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 the reason for such a large number of small clubs is they all want to be winners so leave and start up another club with just a few members but get enough names to cover them wen if they put more attention to there own racing perhaps they would do better themselves about time rpra forced the clubs together
REDCHEQHEN Posted August 14, 2009 Report Posted August 14, 2009 There are 21 members in my club and last week - 19 of them sent 590 birds
