pigeonpete Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Then sorry to say Roland the birds where not good enough. Might have been some underlying problem? as i know some of my birds just arnt good enough, yet they still come. eventually!! were they Healthy roland?
Fair Play Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 The club member who had 5/27 has featured in the National race result on numerous occasions ansd is ruthless in his selection to put it in a nutshell only 4 members sent 18 birds on Sat. and we have we have 12 flying members
mcclaff Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Sorry to hear about your trouble Roland, nearly quit myself after a disaster in the winter past but don't think i could do without them. I will definately be keeping less pigeons with all birds flying out. Going to enjoy them more in future. From what i hear and read it seems that it can be difficult to race young from new stock into a new area. I know some fanciers who have had the same pigeons for a long time with a few introductions along the way and they don't seem to lose too many birds and they always have birds that work their way home sometime if they do get lost. I started again almost 4 year ago and I always lose young birds off the roof early in the year, always did and i put it down to the fact that they don't feel at home and i can live with that cause it leaves more room for the ones that do want to be there. I put very little pressure on young birds as i don't care for young bird racing too much and try more to work on an affection for home. In saying that i had 2 races to 169 miles and lost 6 out of the 15 i started. I have 9 that want to be there and i'll settle for that. Chin up m8, better times lie ahead i'm sure
Roland Posted August 17, 2009 Author Report Posted August 17, 2009 Healthy Pete? Yes, corky and firm like tennis balls. Tight feathered and silky as satin. Beating me home as a batch and full of flying. Eating like no tomorrow... as soon as they started to mave away from the feed, it was removed. Clean fresh water etc.
Guest stb Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Is your club mates getting good returns and times???
Guest stb Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 As you should well no Roland birds can look in show class condition but still have something underlaying. Have you had them checked out lately. tTo get none home means they are either total crap and dont suit you or they have an underlaying prob. Get some of the birds you bred them from checked out and you may get a shock ;)
john@formula 1 lofts Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 First thing the birds can not be that bad if they are beating you home fro 50 mile they would get home from 100 even if they are late. were they all in 1 crate maybe it did not open and is still on transporter i have seen a couple of threads were this has happened before to people. if others had decent returns the only other explanation must be illness most likely Yong bird sickness which ahs come on whilst in baskets it is easy to miss if you do not have y/b's out on Friday as normal first sign is not trapping etc from exercise. Just some ideas i hope some work back for you mate John

Pigeons used to time in well from lerwick riddled with ailment and canker etc. etc. From 96 miles they could walk part of it and still home easy.

Guest bakes Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 One home... a smile at last lol. hope the rest work back for you mate
pigeonpete Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 One home... a smile at last lol. What condition mate?
Roland Posted August 17, 2009 Author Report Posted August 17, 2009 Very good. a little lighter, but nothing a few days feed and rest, piddling about picking in the garden, won't put right.
Guest mick bowler Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 One home... a smile at last lol. Why is it no matter how down we are when we have a bad race, they first arrival days later can be as pleasing as a good timer? I bet you were out looking at that shed every few mins!! I have a couple missing from yesterday (3 in total now )and keep looking, even tho they might not be here long if thy return, its just nice to know where they got to. Have to say, (and reason for my earlier post), that the birds i'm trying to train and prepare for the racing are just not good enough, they have had some tough training but cracks are appearing, not good and not acceptable.
