Roland Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 So one goes into their loft. Some nice round brown marbles and firm. Some same but green etc. etc. No droppings though show anything untowards and the birds by and large look very to brilliant and in perk condition. Some have softer, silker feathers than others. So one does no more that post, or reaches for the Oil jar etc. and sploshes it on feed, another in the water etc. A while later one goes into the loft. Droppings are overall - except the brown nuts marbles, are, or at least to the mind better. Their feathers are a mite tighter and more are silkier... :-/ So are these now better all round birds? :-/ Indeed are we curing what doesn't need curing or improving? :-/ Will they now come better racers this coming season? :-/ Indeed have we needlessly bolster someones pocket for endorsing a product.... prehaps even one that didn't ever think of using it before, and even after ... :-/ Had one season a dry feathered hen. Felt soft, but as if the quill would break so very easily if touched etc. Was my best birds by far that year If I'd sploshed the oils about, etc. etc. would she have done even better? :-/
Guest mick bowler Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Roland i am sure you are aware of the old saying that you can only bring out the best in your birds, you can never make them better. All we can do is get them as near to 100% perfect as we can. I'm also sure a lot of what we do is not needed, although some is essential, but as with any type of athlete psychological effect can have as much impact on ones performance as the physical side, but in the pigeons case its more the psychological effect of the fancier and not the bird, but maybe the bird may feel better too!! Of course by adding oils etc we think it may aid performance, but only science could prove that, all i know is that if its not broken do not fix it, in other words if it works without, why bother?
greenlands Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Hi Roland ,just started adding Homoform to the birds diet droppings perfect as you say with just that reddish colour, like ourselve this cold weather the birds don't drink as much another factor to good droppings.Happy New year mate and good flying. Lindsay.
Guest mick bowler Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Maybe should of said that it so cold here that their droppings are frozen hard lumps by the time they hit the perch! ;D
pigeonscout Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 A good bird is born a good bird and it is up to the fancier to make that bird fly to the best of its ability. If a bird is lacking in health, fitness condition, or motivation it may well win a race but it will not fly 100% of its true potential.
Roland Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 A good bird is born a good bird and it is up to the fancier to make that bird fly to the best of its ability. If a bird is lacking in health, fitness condition, or motivation it may well win a race but it will not fly 100% of its true potential. May win instead of a paper bag you mean. Agree. Fundementally I believe the better the fancier the better the pigeon. And the % that can be improved on is minimal. Slight higher % with a better bird... These I mean that hope and aren't lost / week takers etc. of course. Hence it is the Fancier then the bird's ability. Now to ask again in another way, aren't we with all this 'Beneficials' given just masking over? Like papering over the cracks? :-/ Ye only healthy pigeons win. Surely the Book adage of covers sublimes too many fanciers way of thinking. I believe pigeons, like every living thing, becomes fit. This is a must as no one can treat or make a bird Fit, hence Fit men Train to getting fitter. Likewise with our birds. Then of course we will see the improvement and all round looks etc. as the bird ges fitter till super form. No bottle or presciption can do that. Yes induce a little. So surely the Bottle / oils etc. are, and can only be an assett when a bird is ill etc. Lose droppings are a good beginning as one sees the improvement - if any as the bird gets better condition. Yes I have a mixture of a wide and varied droppings in my lofts. Different lofts have different struture, Air circulation etc. etc. Different perches etc. No worried as I see the differences in the nesting position. Indeed if I remove one or two with nut brown so called marbles, and others take up their' places then strangely so their droppings droppings change.
Guest Davy Fleming Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Never had the loft cleaned out for 2 weeks now as by the time I get to it the droppings are so solid and sticking to the wood there is no chance of getting it scrapped off. You will probably have more chance of damage your wrist than getting them off , Absolutely unbelievable . pig sick of this sh-t
