greenlands Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 This time of year cold dark nights alsorts of nasties creep out of the woods, make sure you have plenty poison/ traps down to stop anything from entering your lofts, stoats are a real threat and can get through unbelievably small holes. Guest strapper Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 this is mainly for novices...not every tip will work for you ! when you look for advice ...winning a race doesnt nescessarily mean they know it all!...but have found a formula that has worked for THEM!..some will know what i mean. ..but its very nice to have won one ;D dont underestimate the good qualities in fresh garlic cloves and cider vinegar over some other bottled natural products....remember fresh is better each time...and works out cheaper too. for novices...when you find yourself behind in races, dont let it dishearten you, most probably the ones in front have learned the trade for far longer than you !..and they themselves were in your position!..at one time. novices...dont be afraid to ask a question even if it sounds stupid....because not asking makes you stupid
mark croker Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 could not have said it better myself, good advise strapper

holmsidelofts Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 after reading a tip on another thread regarding putting a brick in the breeding box for the hen to get out of the way of an aggressive cock bird i wondered how many other simple tips and tricks the members use. kev We use wooden blocks cut from 2x4 as its warmer to stand on in our windowhood boxes, the cocks spend all day lying on these throughout the season.
yorkie Posted December 6, 2009 Report Posted December 6, 2009 we learnt over a long period of time, you can spend hundreds at top lofts, it wont buy success, some had hundreds of birds but probally only 6/7 cocks doing all the winning try to buy from someone packing up or a few youngsters off a successful fancier. Give them time and dont buy birds from all over the place, aim to create a family that is suited to the distance you want to fly
jimmy white Posted December 14, 2009 Report Posted December 14, 2009 dont know if its been posted b4 ,, but sound sense with yb,s nowadays "never put all your eggs in the one basket" it pays off in the long run
