DJ Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 thanx roland, kev, jimmy, lennut tar and carlsberg for your replies/tips while im picking your brains can anybody explain why you shouldnt train in a east wind? i know im only a novice and there,s probably a good reason but im thinking that surely a wind from any direction can blow a pigeon off course? why is a east wind any different? do pigeons not get liberated on race days in east winds? i know these are probably stupid questions to all you old hands but i cant fathom this east wind thing? who,s gonna educate me? debbie
Roland Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 Too cold, chills them. East wids are from Siberia. Well that may well be the reason, yearlings hate them, AS do all ages of pigeons, EVEN the old birds.

jimmy white Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 thanx roland, kev, jimmy, lennut tar and carlsberg for your replies/tips while im picking your brains can anybody explain why you shouldnt train in a east wind? i know im only a novice and there,s probably a good reason but im thinking that surely a wind from any direction can blow a pigeon off course? why is a east wind any different? do pigeons not get liberated on race days in east winds? i know these are probably stupid questions to all you old hands but i cant fathom this east wind thing? who,s gonna educate me? debbie good question debbie,, its a proven fact that when "the wind is in the east its neither good to man nor beast",, if you look at nature and east winds this statement is true,,, when theres a chilly east wind blowing , you wont here many birds chirping happily outside ,, even a dog will go to the door have a sniff then come back in ,, even yourself when its a cold east wind it seems to bite in to you,, and its colder and stronger up in the air ...losses in difficult races proove this also ,, allthough birds may race well enough in east winds , they wont hold their form long as it burns up more of there" fuel "therefore" the tank" is decreased.if you look in to it more deeply youll find that old statement very true

oldguy Posted February 7, 2008 Author Report Posted February 7, 2008 while you lot sit and eat your tea give a thought to this question and post the answer ......Can anyone tell me the ideal measurement between V perches both horizontal and vertical also whats the minimum distace to be used....... thanks
Peckedhen Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 i've found it's better to use a half brick mate so that the hen can get up out the way of the cock. With a full brick he can get up on it aswell to have a go at her I prefer an old 2.5 litre paint tin in the corner of the nest box. It gives the hen a little extra height and the cock can't get up on it.
