billt Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Just had a scare with the log burner, wife stoking the fire up, going great, then we heard a roar chimney burning like a goodun, flames and sparks shooting out the top, I thought I'd let it burn out but the sparks were rolling down the roof, so we called the brigade in, living in the sticks has its drawbacks, took 20mins. to get here and couldn't get up the drive, about 100yds to the yard but the lads did a good job and we've just cleaned up. But it's a bit worrying to think how it could have turned out.

Guest IB Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Wondered how can that be when I saw the name of the thread. Glad that things are OK, but it did take me back to days when everyone had a coal fire and 'lum on fire' was common, you could tell by the colour of the smoke that the chimney had caught fire. Pretty scary thing with soot ablaze in chimney and little balls of fire falling back into the fireplace and hearth.
