I've done the same with NFC and CSCFC winners but as you say you just check the bird is at the correct location etc but its down to the organisation to check ownership with the union. All clubs have the provision to check ring numbers but as you say, very few bother!

 

Old club i was in checked all birds via vaccination record and no other birds could be added to it so ownership was checked and rightly so   there can be a error in not transfering from a friend and racing but to race someone elses bird and pass it off as your own is totaly wrong , then have the audacity to put if for an award is  nothing short of fraud , but without knowing the full details from both sides its hard to make any judgements on hear say

i lost a yb of my roof in 2002 then in 2009 i got a call from a person looking a pedigree  for this bird i asked him were he got then bird from as i lost this bird of my roof as a yb and he told me he bought this bird from bla bla  and i toke bla bla up on this he was baned for 5 years.

a few years ago a guy won at Blackpool, when the bird was verified it did not belong to him!

10 rings that had been registered and given to a member had then been sold or given by that member to another member who had used them!

He blamed the club sec for not registering them in the right name and nothing happened at the region!

He was aware that the birds were not in his name as he had already had a problem when trying to transfer some of the rings to a 3rd member!

Although I have known this person since we were teenagers it as left a very sour taste in many local fanciers  mouths who I have spoken to as he races in the same fed,same section in the nationals etc,people are even wondering now if they may have been done out of money or positions because of this.
