noticed the same with mine sometimes, as someone said, they gorge on grit if they can and this can make the droppings watery......when the ybs are weaned and the grit intake isnt as much they return to normal, plus remember they will be drinking more water too....... :)

I think you'll find birds when feeding youngsters take on a lot more water than they seem to need,  so I would expect droppings to be slightly soft.  Don't know quite how to put this  ;D the parents seem reluctant to pass regular droppings when in their box, they hold onto a barrowload and then get shot of it in a oner in a favourite place well away from the box. Messy. On the other hand, if I was the pigeon, I'd hope that lot was soft.   ;D Be a devil of a job if it wasn't.  ;D

I HAD SAME THING WITH MY STOCK BIRDS ON THERE 1ST ROUND,NONE OF MY STOCK BIRDS FLY OUT.A MATE SAID GIVE THEM A BROKEN UP MINERAL BLOCK, AND THEY WENT MAD FOR IT. WITHIN 3 TO 4 DAYS THE DROPPINGS WERE BACK TO NORMAL.FEEDING YOUNGSTERS TAKES ALL THE NOURISHMENT OUT OF THE PARENTS.I ALWAYS HAD MINERALS IN FRONT OF THE BIRDS, BUT THEY NEVER SEEMED TO HARDLY TOUCH IT,SO I DIDN`T RELISE HOW IMPORTANT IT WAS TO MAKE SURE THEY HAD PLENTY WHEN BREEDING.BIRDS THAT FLY OUT NEED MINERALS SUPPLIED ALSO, BUT THEY PICK ABOUT THE GARDEN AND GET MINERALS NATURALLY AS WELL,BUT PRISONERS NEED IT AVAILABLE DAILY.

had to smile at the above post :)  rather politely put ;D,,,,,,,,,,,why is it that when sitting  a while? and [as politeley says above ;D],, they will patiently wait on you cleaning the loft, putting fresh grit/minerals and water in,,,,,then the birds will come off their eggs ,, back up to one of these galley pots or drinkers, [usually pick the cleanest one ;D]  then kindly drop their" loaded"  load ,,,,,right in the dish,,  ;D [im sure they do this on purpose ;D]

anyway,,when feeding yb,s  i find feeding maples , which contain plenty fibre, seems to keep the yb,s droppings firm,,,
