pigeonforce Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Iv got a cock which is running riot in the loft, just before pairing it up it wouldn't let any bird near the water bowl or on the floor. Since it has been sitting it has got worst, it's bullying everything in the loft, tried locking it away , not worked, i have 4 spare boxes which it thinks it owns even though there closed. And im having to lock it away on a night as it tries to peck all the youngsters. Iv just built a new 16ft young bird loft, so all the youngsters will be out if the way from tommorrow, but what do I do to calm this cock It's just driving me crackers. Thanks Daryl
ALF Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 ANY THAT CAUSE TOO MUCH TROUBLE IN THE LOFT DONT DO IT FOR VERY LONG IF THEY DONT TOE THE LINE ;) :X :X :X

Thanks Daryl Hi Daryl. for me there would only be one solution im afraid and thats the dustbin, All you'll find is he will upset everyone else, dont risk the rest of them for one bird its not worth it no matter how well he's bred. jas.
Guest mick bowler Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 either isolate him, as i have had to do with one of mine, or get rid.
Bluedoo Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 You said he was sitting, but has he had any youngsters?
tony austin Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 try putting an elastic band on his legs for a few days, never tried this myself, but heard good reports about this method. atb tony
ally mac Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I had a nightmare with one last year, persevered though and he is fine now. If it was another bird I would have got rid of him as he cost me a couple of weeks in lost eggs but i liked the look of him and was keen to get a few rounds of him.

Must admit i have not got the patience to mess with them, but shows it can provide dividends.
pigeonforce Posted March 20, 2010 Author Report Posted March 20, 2010 You said he was sitting, but has he had any youngsters? Yes they have just hatched, ???
Bluedoo Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Yes they have just hatched, ??? Hopefully that will give him something else to keep him occupied. Unfortunately these ones often tend to be better racers, they seem more motivated.
clayton moore Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Have a look at his racing record if hes done nothing kill him if hes an ace lock him in his box except when exercising.Let his hen rear the young.
ally mac Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 How did you cure him Ally? Must admit i have not got the patience to mess with them, but shows it can provide dividends. Just locked him in his box Mick and let him out when I was able to stop in the loft for a wee while, if he started his nonsense he was boxed up again. After a wee while he seemed to get the message and was no more bother, he did rear cracking healthy YBs. He was a yearling then. I dont think I would go through the same now unless I knew the doo was worth it. Too much hassle really.
budgie Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Stick him in your race basket water and feed him there and the only time he gets out is when he comes back from the race point. You will be su- ;)prized
wings Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Only one place for that type of bird. I tried all the stuff people said and for while he calmed down then when i wasn't expecting it he was into the nest box of my best birds and smashed there eggs with fighting, so don't chance it you may well suffer for it later.
Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 the ones that cause trouble are the ones you want if the other cocks dont fight back they will be the ones you lose , plus he will keep all the other cocks on there toes during the racing season because they know if they dont come back to fast he will have there box aswell lol , i had the same problem with my busschearts but when you get aloft full of them they all keep each other in line , if i was going to get rid of any it would be the other cocks for not putting up much of a fight
gulkie Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 budgies right put him in a basket and race him till his wings fall of he will race his heart out ;)

lawrie Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 if he is a good racer, lock him in on his own all the time, if hes no good...he shouldnt be in your loft

blaz Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 when you get a cock bird that fights all the time.if you watch 2 cocks fighting they spread their legs to get more purchase balance to fight.if you put a clip on ring on his other leg to his race ring .tie a bit string to both rings just enough to stop him being able to spread his legs to get a stance to fight. it wont be long before he stops .as if he cant get a proper stance he won,t win any of the fights with any of your other cocks and will soon calm down to his own box. tried it last year on one of mine worked a treat.
Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 would that not make him disheartened baz ans make him lose his confidence
blaz Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 would that not make him disheartened baz ans make him lose his confidence no he is just not so much of a bully now .did not say in my post this cock does not race any more he is keep as flying stock. the cock i done it to last year went a wee bit of color as he was not getting his own way. what you have to watch for is if the cock in question fights badly with the same cock time and again ,watch the rolls don,t get reversed . this is the cock that was a pain last year .he had 5 boxes that he would fight for as well as his own. after a few days with string 2 of the boxes where taken over by 2 pair. he had the string taken off after 6 or 7 days .and the 2 pair settled in to the boxes no more problems with him .even this year he has taken one box no problems from him. i did make a point of making sure he had one of the top boxes this year.he is happy no troubles in loft so i am happy with him.as some have said better to be done with a cock like this.better to try one or two different things to stop it. in his case i am glad i did as 2 coulorful yearling scored well in last years ob,s and the only yb i had from him was my best yb . one yb hawked the others given away
Guest frank dooman Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 would that not make him disheartened baz ans make him lose his confidence i agree rocky better to send it up here ;)
