Guest cosmic dave Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Cleaned the birds out a six this morning by half six the cat that lives two doors up was sat on the trap AGAIN I chased it away AGAIN and have had to do so three times since the morning :( I have now fixed a baton with two inch alloy nails spaced a inch intervals along the top where he is sitting, now lets see what happens, I am also thinking of getting one of the audio alarms the cats can hear fixed so it just covers the loft roof so every time it comes near it gets a shock !!!!
Mealy Cock Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 I was getting cat trouble from the off, I spoke to the owners first off, one was ok about it, the other thought it was funny. What I used was a jug of cold water over it, it does not hurt the cat but the cold water gives it a shock. I had one cat that sat on a post near my stock loft aviary with its back to the birds I did not bother that cat as whilst it was there you Did not see any others.
shaun h_ Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 empty air rifle done the trick for me now the cat sits and watchs from afar dont want to harm it but the sound sure scared it off cant take chance of it getting any birds. or you could place black pepper on loft or garden boundries. also heard lillies keep cats out your garden not sure how maybes smell of them or something. 8)
Guest cosmic dave Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 yes its difficult, its hard not to upset the neighbours but what can you do ? why should you not be able to keep some birds because the neighbours keep killing machines !!!!
wings Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 I have the same problem at the moment but the cats are sitting on my house roof they get up from next doors and sit and watch the birds. but they won't be there for long i have had enough of the fact that some people just let them do what they want. the neighbour should put some thing up to stop them getting on the roof. the main problem is when the young birds start to fly from the loft the first port of call is on the roof and if they get a bad experiance from landing on the roof it may well nock there confidance/ though on teh other hand it may well work to my advantage with them not wanting to sit up there and only stay on the loft, i hastent o add the birds only go on the roof while they are young. I have just ordered a cat trap and are going to set it in the garden and when i catch any of the cats they will get a good rattleing and soaked with water before being released hopefully that will stop them from at least coming in the garden the roof is another matter.

Won't make a scrap of difference. Double up on Carpet gripper rods, and a wire mesh in center of fence top. So only had an 1 inch and 1/2 to walk on these spikes... walked them as if not there. Electric fence. Won't walk on that eh! 8)
FoxesFan4Ever Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Not sure how well it works but I know a couple who swear by old teabags soaked in lemon juice for keeping cats away. I used teabags soaked in PLJ on my old loft and rarely saw a cat and they never got near the loft but since I got the 2 Jacks I don't have to worry anymore. (kiss of death or what?) Cheap and easy though so might be worth a shout for you. Good Luck
