Guest bakes Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 as all my oldbird team is made up from yearlings i waited to i no they was fit flying for a good amount of time round home going off rangeing for some time 3 hrs and coming back they was trained as ybs up to 30 miles and thats it i started mine back off at 10 miles till they was beating me back at least a good few times then moved them on to i got them back to 30 mile mark not dropped one bird i can let my birds out for exercise in morning they fly for an hr call them back in light feed take them 30 mile toss they do it in good time and they still wont to fly thats all they won to do ive got no problems in sending them to first race of season at 85 miles then i will keep them going to i stop them or keep them going as and when i choose to not going to throw them away wonting them for later on in life as two year olds for a small team of channel birds for the distances one thing ive always said and been told if there fit exerciseing well round home coming well from training you should be ok but the main thing dont get greedy and push them as thats when you will start getting problems but everyone different thats the way i be doing it everyones else id different as if everyone did it the same way we all be topping club fed each week all the best.
Guest vander mungo Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Take it all else well in loft un they just bein lazy, Took 38 19 mile yesterday for first go, these birds been oot every day o winter weather permitting. Got all eventually took boot 5 hours first tae last. Birds were a bit flighty but just shows ya. Where do they gan!! listen no problems in loft, birds locked in all winter not fit,not like yours out all winter, seems yours are not fit to if it took them 5,hrs to come from toss,or could it be the cold that caused it.have a rethink if its worth pushing them to early inthe wrong weather conditions
Guest WINGS 04 Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Have your birds been paired up and did they rear ybs
cowman Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 mine yearlings are all on pot eggs only 1 of the 4 raced last year flagged them round the loft for a week took 5 miles 2 hrs to get back so took then 10 back before me now they have had 2 at 18 all coming well . i only feed wheat to all my birds throughout the winter i find they don`t get fat and don`t take long to get fit after winter .
dal2 Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 listen no problems in loft, birds locked in all winter not fit,not like yours out all winter, seems yours are not fit to if it took them 5,hrs to come from toss,or could it be the cold that caused it.have a rethink if its worth pushing them to early inthe wrong weather conditions Wasnea havin a pop just pointin out that if they in good nick then has tae be somthing else causin it. Mine have tae gan in the basket at some point for first race and aswednesday was best day yet i gave it a go. Maybe took them too far for first go but have done this 19 miles as first toss as long as a can remeber. You have tae get them fit and always think that a good spin( however long it takes ) does no harm as long as you get them. Cheers
