Guest Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Hi, some of you are interested in Solar Flares and the effect this may have on the Earth's magnetic fields, with possible knock-on effects on the pigeons' ability to get home. Gordon Chalmers emailed me with this website which gives a daily guide to training by best time of day:- http://www.pigeonnavigation.com/
frank-123 Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 hi bruno just looked back a date 31/07/06 my birds stayed out all night i thought some thing cat, hawk had scared them they kept trying to land but then just kept flying and were still going 2 1/2 hrs later and it was dark just found out it was red on the calender for that night i will keep watching this site for future refrence
Guest Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 It's ok keeping your eyes on the site for your own benefit for training etc, but I think it will be another job altogether convincing your race controllers to do the same
Chatrace Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 I agree that the flares do effect the birds, I think that is when the Aliens race thru our skys and net the birds :-) But I have found A high K Factor brings more losses or at leat longer return times
Guest Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Confessed agnostic as far as solar theory goes. Doesn't stop me from posting email info on it though.
jimmy white Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 dont know anything about solar flares or such like,,, but do know there are certain days [for whatever reason] the old birds in the loft are edgy and nervious, and a strange quietness,,,,have trained the ybs on a day like that ,and had a bad toss as with other fanciers on the same day???
Guest Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 Agree very much with your observations Jimmy, they certainly seem to sense 'something' out there. I'm very doubtful though about the solar flare theory. For one thing, the technology is there to keep astronauts [and other space folks and crafts far above the Arizona desert ;D ] safe while in outer space, boldly going .... not 'doon' here either on the ground or at normal aeroplane operating heights.
john robo Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 i use to use a cb radio, on days with high solar flares i could talk to people from other countrys, had something about magnetic fields affecting radio waves, but pigeons brains am not so sure.
Roland Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Likewise the Still Nights, when nothing at all moves. Not rabbits, nor Foxes or even badgers. Had a good friend who was one of the most acknowledge Game Keepers around this way. He use to say 'Good job the Hunter wasn't hunting for the prey wouldn't have moved... but then they needn't, as NOTHING moves. Silent eerie night for sure are they...... Likewise when the Seagulls Mill. Best place for the birds is.... In the loft!
GREENGRASS Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 Any members who are thinking of racing this saturday should check out the activity for the weekend as it very high. something to think about also the weather is to be a bit ropey aswell.
Guest Posted October 8, 2006 Report Posted October 8, 2006 We sort of disproved the Solar flares theory a couple of weeks ago when we had a really bad 250 mile race from Boise Idaho with heavy losses for all competitors. We checked the K Factor and it was reading 2, which if you regard what the theorists say, it should have been a good day for racing.
