Roland Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Quoted from homer personally , i dont like ANY deep litter ! deep litter is for chicken and turkey farmers with hundreds of birds to look after. for me its a shallow litter and clean em out every day ! (gonna be contraversial now) deep litter in your average pigeon loft is for lazy fanciers that only want to muck out a couple a times a year !...................................................................................................................................... there u go , i said it. Or folks that A. Don't have the time, or B. because they believe in it. Many successful lofts have had first class pigeons that have won at the top - Nationals etc. -on un - cleaned out lofts... Now if deep litter is a necessate then that has to be the case Homer ... or is it alright for the misuse jargon for wanting a ET timer a different matter ... no you can't have it both ways. I only race two races all of last season, and 5 the season before... through time... why I have taken different employment ... Had to have electric put into the loft ... am away at 5 most morning and often not back till 6 or 9 or even later.( agreed sometime back at 5). Yes I am always knackered, and I only clean out twice a week, but I know that I'd be a darn sight better off having a Deep Litter system, and that wouldn't be because of being lazy, not because of a 'Must do' but because I actually well believe in it, and above all it has very many good merits in regards the benefit of the birds.
Roland Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 You've obviously put alot of thought into this and can't see anything wrong with deep litter systems run properly, the problem comes with fanciers who don't know what they are doing or worse ... that can be sid of most things in this sport ... just look at the crap scenario of Line / Inbreeding. 90% haven't the first inkling, but take a line and draw a universe. THAT incess breeding is the cause of many and much detrimental happenings to our birds ... but AS ONE reads that SO and so does it and he is a winner, and I want ... it is ok I suppose. and Hang the cost eh! :K) :
Guest Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 what makes this thread different from any other Paul in the length of time it is kept running ? is that not the idea of them being kept on here so that members can go back and reply to something they may have missed, everybody has gave an opinion on what other members do as maybe regarding feeding methods or flying methods, you yourself have expressed an opinion on threads and posts, that is the whole point of a discussion forum, so members can discuss and debate on what each member does, and how many normal threads have an element of hostility in them somewhere, one example of you bringing things back up was the saga of coxy, how many threads did you start or bring up regarding that ? you can't criticise somebody for bringing up older threads , that is what they are there for, i myself have brought up threads when i thought they had some relevance at some point no matter how old they were, lately i have saw threads brought up that were more than a year old , nobody lambasted them, this is like a library , things are stored for members to read, new members will go back through threads that are old and if they find something to reply to they must be allowed to bring it back up, older threads brought back up always seem to get more replies so things kept running are a much needed thing, what would happen if things were deleted after a brief spell on the forum, how can you then bring things back and let them run on,calm down and get a grip of yourself and behave . ;) tammy, its not my intention to stop sensible threads running but im on about threads that insult people like this has done in one of the posts about fanciers with deep litter!....may i also state that i have not repeatedly started threads about coxy but mainly added to them!!my opinion...because i was one who was nearly duped by him! i find wot has been said about deep litter fanciers disrespectful and thats why i have posted to this thread, which has already gone through enough info for anyone to know anything about it(has u have metioned threads are for)...but it hasnt stopped there and its getting to the point where some are starting to get personal and thats when u should urself agree it has gone past where it was once ok for info. im sure if u found a thread disrspectful then ud be the 1st to add ur view about it...well im no different . the insults have come from one fancier who has seen a few deep litter lofts and tarred us all(who use deep litter) with the same brush. to be honest im one who,s fed up of this site lately ,certainly from fanciers who be little others ways of flying. i can also see richard having enough and closing it down if the situation in the main forum doesnt change. all the best paul.

Roland Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Twice a year! Rubbish once every 2 years is more than enough ... then take tha birds out, saturate in Cresote, and leave to dry. 2- 3 Weeks later replace the birds, there done, healthy contented and happy birds!
Merlin Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 There is no set way,a fanciers vanity leads him to assume his is the only way,Ive been to lofts that have been uncleaned for years, with the resultant droppings forming deep litter, and housing as healthy and winning birds as you might want ,also been to state of the art loft costing a fortune, cleaned on a daily basis, but with a good degree of different ailments on an ongoing basis, health of birds is the yardstick by what system is adequate, not forgetting a healthy birds dry droppings is one of the most natural and efficient pro bios a fancier can use, whatever suits oneself,as long as birds are contented and healthy with the system, what fanciers are lacking in is some serious doses of common sense.
retired Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Have not read therough the whole thread so sorry if i am repeating someone elses comments. Hemcore is a good product for the floor - made for horses but very good i use floor grills in most of the loft and the remaining loft will be done in the next week or two i dont think you can beat them

First class realistic and very true Post!! Think on it, there are very many reasons put in the above post as to why Deep litter has many and above all good merits ... :
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Was shown some easi-bed at Blackpool and it looks quite good as a floor cover, maybe give it a try in one of the smallest lofts to see how it works

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 I use that easi-bed in the stock loft and think its the best deep litter on the market. that is where I intend giving it a try to begin with.
Guest Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 I use that easi-bed in the stock loft and think its the best deep litter on the market. I use the easi bed in both my lofts not as deep litter though I pick up the droppings off the top every day but its good stuff and keeps their feet nice too
