kev43 Posted October 12, 2009 Author Report Posted October 12, 2009 i have seen it done by lads nxt door 2 me but i wanted 2 know if it makes any difference in their racin
john@formula 1 lofts Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I do this on first y/b race, incase they do not find the water, but only the first week as after that they need to find the water before they get a couple of days in the basket come the Nationals.
Pigeondoll Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Have heard of it done, don't think it makes the pigeon fly better but does stop them from drinking in the baskets because that is where a lot of diseases are picked up, so elliminating that aspect of flying problems.

Ive tried it but the birds just blow it straight back out ( unless they are on nest ).It is pointless doing ybs this way, IMO.The other downside is that they wont drink later in the basket when the others are, hence the other pigeons being more hydrated than yours come the liberation. :-/
pjc Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I went to varify a Classic section winner one evening to find the fancier topping up all his rung youngsters in the nest with water, something he said he done every evening to stop them dehydrating in the night!

You cant syringe them when off nest as it comes right through them or they spew it out
pjc Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 You cant syringe them when off nest as it comes right through them or they spew it out true, but I was suprised it didn't cause the youngsters droppings to become very wet around the bowl!

ALF Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 do it with young birds incase dont drink in basket got a shring with tube on it good for washing crop if you get sourcrop with a little cyder vinegar Same here i have a 20ml syringe with a 15-20ml long bit of 5ml air line stuck on it which i syringe right into the crop of any y/b's not looking to well
Delboy Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Granted, if a yb or ob isnt well and you want to give them water with antibiotics etc in it, then syringing is the only way to do this but they will blow most of it out within 10 minutes of you doing it. At least they will have a little medication left in them.

Guest mick bowler Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Wow, thats dedication! Is it not just easier to give them long grain rice or lettuce???

Wiley Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 do members on here believe in injectin water down the throat ov their racin birds b4 the go in2 basket b4 they go 2 their clubhut 2 go on the race ahead ? My friend Ronny Bigwood was a big believer in this
BIGDAVE Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 electrolytes Thursday friday no need to force water on them . :-/
Guest Davy Fleming Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 Regularly syringe birds, old and young using a 20ml syringe with a 2-3 inch very thin tube right down into the gut with REHYDRATION only (not water) , but only when it is extremely warm weather and can assure 90 % of these birds are first home from the race. ;)
Guest mick bowler Posted October 12, 2009 Report Posted October 12, 2009 I have just bought 40 intravenous drips and tubes, so i can use them on my YBs next year to ensure they don't dehydrate. ;D
