cemetary Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 If you shine a light in one eye of a pigeon, it will come out the other eye - only a fine bone plate seperates the two eyes.
Williedoo Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 Think the same thing might happen if you shine one in YOUR ear. ;D ;D
cemetary Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 Pigeons only have muscles in the lower of the two main eyelids.
cemetary Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 When a pigeon breathes in, the top of its windpipe moves up and almost sucks onto the slot (choana) on the roof of the mouth.
cemetary Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 Blind Pigeons can still find there way home, In experiments in which pigeons were temporary blinded by putting black discs over the surface of the eyes, the birds still homed from 80 miles. It seems that vision is only necessary for the final approach to the loft.
PATTY BHOY Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 have to start blindfolding ours ;D ;D ;D ;D
Guest BRYANBROCK Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 think it flew 7000 miles round the sahara desert picked up i mile from loft (shrug)(shrug)(shrug)(shrug)
cemetary Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 The bright colour of the iris in the eyes is due to tiny fat droplets, which reflect light. When the bird is ill, these fat droplets are absorbed and the colour becomes duller.
bird man of meath Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 think it flew 7000 miles round the sahara desert picked up i mile from loft (shrug)(shrug)(shrug)(shrug) good man top of the class who owned it any takers

cemetary Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 Pigeons like other birds, have a unique and bizzare structure called the pecten, which sits on the top of the optic nerve in the back of the eye. It is thought to improve vision clarity or to aid in long distance.
Guest Davy Fleming Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 CEM ARE YOU OK MATE ??? AS GETTING A BIT WORRIED The wife is asking why there tears running down my face as in stitches mate ;D ;D ;D
cemetary Posted October 13, 2009 Author Report Posted October 13, 2009 Pigeons have special glands in their eyelids that produce a mucus that makes their tears stick to the front of the eye. This means that they can fly at the speeds they doo even in hot conditions without the surface of the eyes drying. This would be analogous to us having our head outside the car while it was going 60km/h facing the breeze and not blinking.
Williedoo Posted October 13, 2009 Report Posted October 13, 2009 . This would be analogous to us having our head outside the car while it was going 60km/h facing the breeze and not blinking. Done that, could,nt see after a while.
