The White Rapido Man Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 I understood that the old logun strain were an long distance specialist, and were founded in Scotland......

jimmy white Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 I understood that the old logun strain were an long distance specialist, and were founded in Scotland...... old logan ,,was a scotsman ;D ;D ;D
Roland Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 I believe he did his flying in Market Harbourough. Was one of he three greats. Logon. Frankie George amd of course Louie Masserella.
Roland Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 Frankie George of course was Wilby & Wellingborough and had three lofts of course. He use to import and send to China in the Mid Fifties. Bought 'Morning Cloud' for a then world record of £800. Use to have a friend rivalry of course with Masserella, both on the pitch and in the buying world.
Roland Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 I thought he was Irish Believe you are right. have his write up etc. tucked away somewhere on a disc. Will have to look it up again sometime. Naturally feel I know... then other posts make me think twice. But am about right I believe.
ch pied Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 I always thought he was Irish could be wrong though Think Logans were bits of everything Barker Gits foreign birds he bought in if i remember what i read about him think he was a very rich man and bought in the best to produce what he wanted wasnt a problem in those days that you had to have pure anythings you seemed to produce your own strain think he used to inbreed with his birds as well yes rose , GITS, HANSEEN , SOFFEL WEGGE , BARKER , TOFT , dolly mixtuers , but a master at blending pigeons , what if that man was around to-day , with the feeding , trainning methods , loft's , he would be at the top of the game , just by being a top stockman , yes rose he had a few shillings about him , but i would worry more about what he had between his ears , regarding pigeons , if he was here in this day and age , just think a race from france in the 1890's , 3 or 4 days to the race point or may-be more , they were the pionniers of pigeon racing in the uk
peterpau Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 I always thought he was Irish could be wrong though Think Logans were bits of everything Barker Gits foreign birds he bought in if i remember what i read about him think he was a very rich man and bought in the best to produce what he wanted wasnt a problem in those days that you had to have pure anythings you seemed to produce your own strain think he used to inbreed with his birds as well Surely any quality strain are made from a blend of all sorts. The birds in my pen are pure mine. No body elses strain seems to hang around here in large numbers.
tomm1e Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 There are probably quite a few that have allsorts if the truth was known but having a pure strain seems to be much more impressive to some We tried few over the years but very few seem to live upto the expectations of them is there such a thing as a pure strain. all strains are blends of others. and even if you inbreed around a few champions for several generations eventually a cross will have to be introduced.
