gd Posted May 20, 2009 Author Report Posted May 20, 2009 first one about a week ago - missus had 4 y/b in cages outside the loft for few days just getting them to trap and flutter about the garden and bang pair of magpies split the 4 and one totally spooked and on a mission to god knows where. then again this morning same again but just the one magpie I saw it take ahold of one off the loft roof a couple of feathers flying and then the y/b was about 300 yrd high the other two managed to keep their heads but the one that got hit long gone now. gd

The Navigator Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Think you need an air rifle mate. Agree, that stops them. I had it a few years back and solved it.
goshawk Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 yer seen them in the wild trying to nail the young ferals, quite a skilled at it but they did nest near by. myabe you have a nest very close. you need to follow them with a good arifle
pigeonpete Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Agree, that stops them. I had it a few years back and solved it. you were supposed to shoot the magpies though mate, not the pigeons! lol :-)

goshawk Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 cant you put a young pigeon in a cage at the bottom of the garden? should bring the magpie in.
Guest HawkBait Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Think you need an air rifle mate. Not very nice shooting wild birds pal especially magpies how would you feel if someone who didnt like pigeons got an air rifle
goshawk Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Not very nice shooting wild birds pal especially magpies how would you feel if someone who didnt like pigeons got an air rifle there a legal pest species, if there coursing you damage to your property then your aloud to shoot them under the gernal license.
The Navigator Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Not very nice shooting wild birds pal especially magpies how would you feel if someone who didnt like pigeons got an air rifle If they are doing damge to your property then you are allowed too. So tough?
nogin Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 If they are doing damge to your property then you are allowed too. So tough? wel lsaid m8 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Guest Freebird Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 Not very nice shooting wild birds pal especially magpies how would you feel if someone who didnt like pigeons got an air rifle First and foremost, I'm definately not yer pal. Secondly, I don't personally shoot anything but if required to and legal then I would. Why especially Magpies? Is it cause they look good. Magpies are responsible for a lot of damage to wild songbirds nests, eggs and young. They are also well over populated. Last but not least, people do shoot pigeons. I take it you were born yesterday. Gonnae dae awe us Scotts lads a favour an keep yer childish opinions tae yerself as it is quite embarasing to say the least.
Roland Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 If you get a rifle, use a ferret - tied up of course - as bait. They will hove over and swoop, land close and attack it even. Always plenty of chances of a good clear shot.
pjc Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 removing magpies is legal. Best way is to get a larson trap and you'll catch them in no time!
hotrod Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 I READ IN A THREAD ABOUT PERCY , that percy was the only species on the increase in brittain ,im sorry but these things are multiplying out of control, i had a nest not far away from my last loft and got rid of the offspring from the nest (8 young in one nest) thats a fact .this is why there is so many of them
pjc Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 they are teritorial and as soon as you get rid of one pair more move in. This is why larson's work so well with an out of area decoy.
