pigeonforce Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Yesterday (sat) when i went into my loft there was a cat in there, which had got through the trap, as i opened the door the cat ran out and so did all my birds, they have refused to go back in since and wont even land on the loft roof, they have been on the neighbours roof since yesterday, spending all day and night on the roof and by the looks of it tonight as well, what can i do ???? Surley the birds must be hungry, Any helpfull advice, for the birds, Daryl
THE FIFER Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 not much you can do m8, just try and encourage them down, with food, they will come down in their own time,
Tenny Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 birds generally dont fly when its dark. Can you get on the roof with a basket. it should be easy to slowly aproach and catch each bird individually. keep them in for a few days resstore the confidence. make sure they don get spooked when in . block all windows at night etc.. good luck
pigeonforce Posted June 28, 2009 Author Report Posted June 28, 2009 not much you can do m8, just try and encourage them down, with food, they will come down in their own time, LOL tried that all day not intrested in the food , and when they have started to come they get to the loft and instead of landing they hover then bank off back to the roof. Will try them again tommorrow
pjc Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 have you any more birds that go out that are currently in the loft?
pigeonforce Posted June 28, 2009 Author Report Posted June 28, 2009 I have a big Carp landing net which i was going to try and catch them with but they refuse to land on the loft, will just try again in the morning.
just ask me Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 probably be better to wait mate don't want to frighten them any more
THE FIFER Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 if you do get one or 2 in put them on the loft in a cage so the others see them on the loft, or if you have other birds do this with them, let the ones on the roof see the ones in the cage getting fed,
pigeonforce Posted June 28, 2009 Author Report Posted June 28, 2009 have you any more birds that go out that are currently in the loft? No everything i have is out i lost 5 which i havent seen since yesterday but the other 9 are on the roof , just been out to see and there still there all huddled together Well 9 of them
stew 75 Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 when trying to get them in dont through food on ground, keep all food in loft as thay will pick food on ground then go back on roof
Novice Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Some good advice but I will tell you the best piece of loft equipment you can buy for occasions like this is a hammer. The cat may return and you must be prepared.
Tenny Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 GET UP ON THE ROOF AND PICK THEM UP AND INTO A BASKET... EASY....AS LONG AS U CAN GET ON THE ROOF|!! PS IF YOU FALL OFF AND BREAK A LEG I NOT RESPONSIBLE! LOL
pjc Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 can you borrow a couple of birds to put in a cage on the loft?
cemetary Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 Yesterday (sat) when i went into my loft there was a cat in there, which had got through the trap, as i opened the door the cat ran out and so did all my birds, they have refused to go back in since and wont even land on the loft roof, they have been on the neighbours roof since yesterday, spending all day and night on the roof and by the looks of it tonight as well, what can i do ???? Surley the birds must be hungry, Any helpfull advice, for the birds, Daryl, i think the hunger will get the better of the them in a couple of days, i wouldnt try and catch them with a net, you may knock them all to hell, they are scared stiff just now, be patient and it will pay off mate. Dougie.
jimmy white Posted June 28, 2009 Report Posted June 28, 2009 ive had this b4 , really very frustrating, the harder you try,, the worse it seems to make them,,, i have found out the best way is to actually leave them,, hard as it is,, try and coax them in each evening, if they dont come in after a few mins lock the hatch, once theve been spooked, it often takes days , for this to leave them , the bigger the spook [fright] the more days it seems to take them , but they will come in sooner or later, good luck
JD Trap Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 I've just invented a device to protect any cat to get into our pigeons cage without stopping the pigeon in and out freelly. This device called Jump & Drop Trap. To see how it's work, you can go to ABC TV (Australia) on The NEW INVENTORS (http://www.abc.net.au/tv/newinventors/txt/s2217824.htm). This trap is the humane & safe way to protect our prize pigeons from predators. Djamal
PATTY BHOY Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 string the cat up and let the birds see it ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D that way moggy wont be back.
Guest shadow Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 just have patience they will come in eventually put a small amount of food down in the loft
Guest IB Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 I agree that it is down to patience & giving them time to get over the fright & regain confidence in their home. Do not try and catch them outside the loft, I think that will only make matters worse - and you might do yourself some damage out on a roof at night. No harm in leaving their feeder in view though, with just a very light pick of food in it, less than enough for one bird, one is all you need to bring others down..
