As a rule of thumb I wouldn't send them racing any further than 4 times as far as they have been trained. (Unless your Terry McCarthy and train to 120 miles ;D ;D)

It's the rule I was taught years ago by my Father and some good old flyers when I was a kid and I have always stuck by it. As for your situation its a bit of damned if you do and damned if you don't. You have to ask yourself what is the alternative for them two if you don't send them?  :-/

Answered your own question then mate  ;) ;) ;) It looks like 120 miles for them then. The other thing to consider is are you on the main line of flight (drag) for the race birds i.e. "corridor racing" if so they should come through and it will give them a bit of experience of being in the transporter over night and being liberated with a good few birds. two things that can "phase" youngsters in my opinion

I would have no qualms putting the whole team into 120 miles with 8-10 40 mile tosses under their belt

i like this way of thinking bob as i am putting 7 1st timers in this weekend  at 75 mile been getting trained at 20 mile.

my thoughts first would be the age of the yb,s,,,, some yb,s are 6 months old b4 racing, some as young as 12 weeks old,, if these older yb,s were ranging well, for some time, then trained well up to 30 miles,, they should be quite able of racing well over 100 miles first race

these younger ones, still growing fast,, need built up, slowly , but can , and have came better than these older yb,s if handled with care, these younger birds [on natural] are often better, flight wise, than the older ones [not on darkness] for the later races
