Lots of reports in South Wales of Y/B's returning late from races minus their ETS ring, what do fanciers think of the proposed new rings that will have the chip in them ?

it is quite simple mate , an object with some value or novelty has been removed by persons who do not wish to pay for the same thing ,.............take it up with the manufacturer

Long overdue :-/

I would rather the ETS ring be connected to the Members Clock electronically. Then it would be pointless stealing the ring because it would'nt work with a differant clock.

If we have the ETS and Life rings made into one and the same thing, there is a risk that a monopoly could be formed and the prices would not be controlled by the market.

The current prices are far too high, so surely we have to think of some way of getting them down.

I don't think we can risk giving the Unions a chance to control the issue of rings either. They would use their position to wring more money from us.

The rings will not have the chip in them that is put in when you have the chip allocated to the bird, people who do not use ETS will have the same ring but will not buy the chips,so in theory the chip could be taken out of the ring so we will still have the same problem.

why dont all the ets using fanciers go back to the stb as it has been nothing but trouble since it became a popular timing system

Bring Back the manual clock  :P

ITcertainley makes you think about it sometimes,Friday at basketing marked the birds then couldnt get it to print out tryed everything I could think of then suddenly it printed, next 2 members couldnt even get it to mark the birds same again just kept trying until it finally worked, still dont know what the problem was, must say this was the Bricon system I had the trouble with this week, also have Unikon in the club and still get unexplainable problems with that.

As I say it certainly makes you feel like going back to a manual clock sometimes but then WHEN everything is going right with the ETS there is certainly nothing better, and that is most of the time believe me.

yes that sounds a good idea as long as the fanciers who still use clocks and rubbers aint paying more for rings just cos they have a chip in them.  Would you have chipped and none chipped life rings. :-/

All life rings will be non chipped, people who have Ets will buy the chipe separate just like we do now with the present Ets then insert them in the life ring when they are allocated to the bird the life ring is on,so everybody will pay the same for the life ring.

would people be able to take the chip out of the life ring just like the ets rings being taken of as i think a lot of people take them of to annoy folk who use ets??

I am against ets but if you get chips in the life rings make them the same as rings now but with a removable chip and when racing put a rubber on it and people will soon get fed up looking for chips in the rings if they have a rubber on them.

Or get intouch with manufacturor and ask them if they can get owners name engraved on the rings you have the now there must be a way round it somehow.

Not 100% sure on that but I would think so because we do have problems with some rings now so I think they would have to be removable in case the chip broke down.

Then your back to the same problem as some nuts will take them out.  You are probably correct

as if they were permanent in life ring and it broke down that would be the end of the birds racing carrer i suppose

Suppose thats one of the disadvantages of the ETS people taking the rings off, guess I,ve been lucky as in 3 years I havn,t have one taken. Can I ask why you are against ETS.

Well once you checked the ring worked you could superglue it in place. Or do the ets brigade still want the option of moving them around?

You could superglue the chip in place but at a later date if that chip broke down and you couldnt remove it then that birds racing days would be over unless you went back to a manual clock and a rubber.

No worse than a bird damaging its leg and having to have its metal ring removed. Why would a chip break down? They use them for animal passports. And lets face it theres more chance of the bird breaking down.

Or are there still just too many flaws in the system!
