Guest Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 i would do it more often than once every 6 months!! i would do it once a week but im going to get 2 sets of drinkers so when im using 1 set il wash the other and clean them more often, i use vanodine v18 to clean them
Guest SkyMaster Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 iv ben told cleaning them isnt good for the birds apparently the algae in the drinker helps the birds immunity
REDCHEQHEN Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 As my birds always manage to cr*p in the drinker every day - they get washed out daily
Guest SkyMaster Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 Yes i rinse mine daily i mean scrubbing the algae of them
Guest Owen Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 I distinfect my drinkers about once a week with a viricidal distinfectant. And I wipe the widowhood boxes out daily with a sponge soaked distinfectant. The one thing that gets up my nose is the oblong shaped pots. The round ones are great for cleaning but the oblong ones are a pain in the neck. It is dificult to get into the corners. The one place I do not clean is the Young Bird Floor. I keep that in deep litter because I want them to peck around in the dry droppings to build up their imunity to the sorts of things that lead to YBS. Well that's my opinion any way. Regarding the algae build up. I think that's fine in running water but drinkers and feeder should be properly cleaned, in my view.
chichichi Posted May 26, 2009 Report Posted May 26, 2009 we have 2 sets of drinkers,, one set is in the lofts the other is in a bucket of bleach and water ,, so everyday they get changed,, we swill the bleach ones then add to the loft,, the one from the loft goes to the bottom of the bucket full of bleach,, We buy cheap bleach and add 4 litres of bleach to 20 litres of water approx.. best of luck ant
