david Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I noted a post that stuart wilcox placed regards vandenbeeles perhaps not holding there own in the somerset bristol area (southwest in general) Is anybody doing very well with them down there (fed level) ? If not are they racing better crossed . Up here in the grampians they seem to hold their own ... Jimbo from this forum has some belters .. If you read this stuart i would be very interested to know just how they performed for you when you raced them.Do you still house them ?? I certainly get a better race from them when they are crossed out . Those that came well and were not crosses were 2 yrs old..As yearlings you had to question the abilitys of them .Do they need time?? David

Guest Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 well posted David after all Stewart does sell :-/ and.
swilcox Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Lads during 2004-2005-2006 i purchased 15 pairs of Gaby pigeons for my own use, these were raced in 2006,2007 and 2008. I had them from 2 english sources, Anton Ruitenberg and direct. From the 15 pairs i ended up with 4 consistant breeders, 3 cocks from Anton Lightenberg and a hen which was bred from Mel King. The best of the breeders was an 02 Dutch cock called Smart George, i still have 2 good dtrs of him and one has bred 2 x 3rd Combine last year crossed Frans Zwols!!!! But on the whole they were disapointing and i have culled 26 of them. of the other 4 i sold Smart George who was the best one on this site last year (to a friend of Black W/F), the other 3 are at Mike Whites a friend of mine as i do believe they are decent pigeons, from probaly 200 or more bred i would say 10 are left and they contain the blood of these 4 pigeons and are now crossed. As for other fanciers yes some are doing ok but they havnt made such an impact as many expected just as they havnt in the West Midlands but and i have said this before there are enough people winning with them to suggest they are very very good pigeons, they just didnt make an impact in this area. Stuart P.S. Black w/f you sent me a pm and the answer is ofcourse yes, there are some babies coming away soon and im sure i can select a very good pair from them, its taken time as i had to breed a bigger team than i expected and i had a few orders to fill. Get the lad to pm me.
david Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 Taylorsloft .. Sounds like you have the goods ! This is the debate . They seem to be coming well up here Grampian ,Aberdeen,...but i am a little perplexed as to why in the west country( bristol&somerset) they are not such achievers? . I am reminded of the aclimatisation period for new family's to cultivate themselves to the said area....give them time i was told . I am wondering who races these lines with very good success?? I thought stuart may know ? DAVID
david Posted July 15, 2009 Author Report Posted July 15, 2009 Thankyou stuart. It's amazing how birds just dont click in certain areas? We live and learn . DAVID
Guest Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Interesting post, I beleive the Gabys are a 'better day' pigeon i.e. not so keeen back in to the wind, which may explain why they don't do so well out west but that is a generalisation and I have no doubt someone will have got them on tough days. Stuart's Zwols are the bees knees, well worth having Black w/f, you won't be dissapointed, super pigeons (imo). By the way Stuart is a racing man through and through, he is just a bit brighter than most of us in that he works hard at the sport he enjoys as an auctioneer/seller to help pay for his birds
swilcox Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 I have theory on why but i would get shot down if i said it!!!!! There are people winning with them in the south west ofcourse but the big guns had them and they didnt aclimatise that well. Cheers Albear, as you saw on your visit everything in my sheds are raced!!!! As for the selling side i really enjoy it and get a real buz out of Auctioneering!!!!! Stuart
BLACK W F Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Stuart the post in my eyes did not look good as you stated not up to scratch in your area then you had sold some but you have rectified the post stateing you culled the ones not good enough Albear the y/bs are not for me but a friend but thanks Suart for seting us straight cheers mate and you are right horses for corses

Guest Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 Had the Vandenabeeles, from several sources, some expensive some not. Was not overly impressed overall, but i suppose its the same in all "strains," getting the "right" ones! The Vandenbeeles that were ok here i have gifted free to new starters in the past few weeks. Like Stuart, the rubbish ones were disposed of. That said, the Vandenabeeles have topped the UNC, and full credit to them for that. Just wish it had been for me, lol!

Jumbo Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 The 1st young bird race last week , we had 3 birds on the drop together all on the Fed Sheet against the odds as we only get 2 mile from Aberdeen .All of them are 100% gaby, infact 8 out of my 1st 9 were Gaby's. Stevie you are correct John Hunter had the best of the Gaby's , my first 1bird last week is bred out of a hen from him.

edwards Posted July 15, 2009 Report Posted July 15, 2009 i think when it comes to pigeons that do great in the first 5 to 10 years you jump on them regardless the strain its when there hot winning everything you jump on that there and then 25 years ago the verheys were doing we jumped got them never crossed them there still doing it machines on the land. the gabys well folks hold your hands up there fantastic birds there record is shocking in the short years there around they will and mark my words break records for years to come i think they end up an ultimate breed gaby him self was sending between 9 and 12 cocks to a race and other members and flyers 50 and 60 top top top flyers at that 80%of the time gabys birds won a north east wind and he used to smile because he had the race won .we got children of the lines in the 80s and 90s and bred rings around these the young there producing for stock are class they will never be crossed out and they have proving them selfs already the first year weve half tried them these are our channel birds for the future . plus an interesting write up on the verheys i read there is not another breed of pigeon that has won more in middle racing in the uk ireland or for that matter the british isles than the verhyes bet this is gonna stir sh** but very true folks.
