Guest Paulo Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Weather Warning issued for the North East. The following is what we have been issued at work from the Met Office itself to warn us:- "Further to the Early Warning of Heavy Rain issued by the Met Office @ 10.54 today; as CCU Duty Officer I thought it appropriate to also make you aware of the attached email from Graham Butler, PWS Advisor. It appears that the North East could be in for a very wet few days? I would request that appropriate personnel are notified of the current situation and necessary preparations are put in place to deal with any localised flooding should it be required over the weekend. '' "Morning all, If you have been looking at the Met Office web site recently there has been an advisory in force for heavy rain later tomorrow and then on Saturday. This has just been upgraded to an early warning. We expect rain to spread to all of NE England from the south by early Friday afternoon. This will then continue for the rest of Friday and all of Saturday, quite heavy at times. There will also be a strong and very cold E to NE'ly wind developing. The rain is then expected to only slowly die out during Sunday. So, we are looking at most of the region having 20-25mm of rainfall on Friday, though with as much as 40mm over the hills, and another 25-30mm in places on Saturday, though with as much as 50-60mm over the hills. So worst case scenario could see nearly 100mm of rain over the Cheviots and Northern Pennines during Friday and Saturday. Amounts on Sunday should only be around 5-10mm. I am not sure whether ERA type alerts will be issued but certainly flash warnings will be issued as and when. I am also not sure just how bad surface water flooding will be but the main problem will be huge amounts of water entering the river system and of course the E.A. will advice on any fluvial flooding. I can now see why Kevin Keegan wants to leave the Northeast!''

Guest IB Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Reckon its Monday at earliest. This kind of weather seems to happen in cycles? I remember a thread running same time of year a few years ago with YBs in basket from Wednesday to following Tuesday in some cases, with birds being brought back to Britain from mainland Europe. Also remember someone raising the exact same thing at last SNFC AGM saying every year on this weekend weather has been bad, with weekend before and after OK., and recommended race date be moved. Didn't happen -maybe we'll get a 'I told you so' at the next AGM?
flighty hen Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Saw on the news today - Wales getting the worst of it - hope things improve Stopped at the minute, but been lashing down today, more tomorrow, just hope it will be ok for Monday lib at Ramsgate.
Guest Vic Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 AFTER ONE OF THE MOST MISERABLEST SEASONS EVER, AND LOSING GOOD BIRDS, TO BOOT. BUT! I HAVE PLENTY LEFT, WINNING THE ALL RACE AVERAGES ONCE AGAIN. I'M SERIOUSLSY THINKING OF CALLING IT A DAY. I THINK THE ETS, HAS KILLED WHAT THE GAME IS ALL ABOUT, (CONFIDENCE AND CLOSENESS, BETWEEN MAN AND BIRD.) WHO EVER THOUGHT, THAT CONVEYER BELTS WOULD DICTATE THE WINNERS AND BE MORE POWERFUL THAN THE CONVEYORS THEMSELVES? SURELY? THE CLOCKING OF THE PIGEON WAS THE SECOND MOST EXCITING THING AFTER WITNESSING ITS ARRIVAL? BUT, EVERYONE TO THEIR OWN WAY OF THINKING. CHEERS, VIC.
