Roland Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 Read once a good article that stated that all strains, families etc. regardless of what distance one wishes to focus on, should only be cultivated by used proven distance birds. Many reasons for this make perfect sence too.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 best way to create an all round family Roland
DeDarren Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I remember reading that pigeons of the Bricoux family were used as foundation stock by the late Albert Marcelis when founding his family of National Ace sprint winners.
OLDYELLOW Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 the hidden pair were Bricoux Dedarren
Guest Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I remember reading that pigeons of the Bricoux family were used as foundation stock by the late Albert Marcelis when founding his family of National Ace sprint winners. That is right, he tells you that on a video. The base of the Marcelis are Bricoux, Janssen, Van Loon and Houben
OLDYELLOW Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Albert Marselles spent 5 days in prison during the war for flying them out
DeDarren Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 And in parallel, I think I read in the Janssen book that although the men from the Arendonk never played on the middle or long distances, other fanciers were winning out to 600 miles at National level with pure Janssen pigeons. It is indeed a funny old game!
Beanz Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 The Marcellis birds had Hoorabin not Houbens as did the Van Reets. Paul
OLDYELLOW Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 they had Houben in pedigrees i used to have
Guest Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 they had Houben in pedigrees i used to have And in the ones that I have got
Beanz Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 they may have later but they were founded on the Hoorabin's as were the Van Reets originally according to the Video's, I have the first 8 of the Around Antwerp videos including Marcellis and Van Reet na dwhen they mentioned this family I originally thought they said Houben but in fact they didn't it was Hoorabin and I have watched them many times not saying they did not bring Houbens in later but the familys were founded on the Hoorabin's, I had never heard of these so that was why I originally thought they said Houben but I have heard of it a few times since apparently it was a very old breed. Paul

Paul I will stand corrected
DeDarren Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 With regard to Van Reet, I recall Staf on the Dean Pallatt release citing a 'vos' pigeon from 'Hermans' of Luithagen, the voucher pigeon he won from his corn suppliers, in addition to pigeons from his grandfather's old family as being at the base of his family, but nothing of Hoorabins. That's not to say he never said it of course! Just what I remember from viewing both Dean Pallatt's video and Around Antwerp's Van Reet release. Does anybody have any further information on Hoorabins?
Guest Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Does anybody have any further information on Hoorabins? I am waiting for a book to arrive called "The History of thr Belgian Strains" I will look it up in there and let you know

Paul i had directs of Albert here, son of the Wringer, daughter of geeloger, son of sproetkop gust ect. The spelling was exactly the same as Houbens, maybe it was the pronounciation that could have been different. The grandparents of the wringer on the fathers side were both houbens. but like i said maybe was a pronounciation thing, maybe Derek pedley who was good friends with albert could suggest more. The marcellis also contained a strain called V.D Flaes
Beanz Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Will watch the video's again tomorrow to check and then post on here. Paul
Wiley Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Will watch the video's again tomorrow to check and then post on here. Paul I have the pedigrees to hand Paul, and it is spelt as Houbens, but like i said could be a pronounciation situation :-/
just ask me Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 think he may be talking about when the familly was started the real base pigeons of the familly i have heard of these birds before but no info on these
Beanz Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Wiley what year do the pedigree's go back to as I mean as Just Ask Me says the origins of the strains, not had time to watch them yet but I remember Dave Allen saying that they were a distance strain and he commented on the fact that it was strange that the two sprint strains originated from a distance strain.
