sapper756 Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 HAS ANYONE EVER EXPERIENCED A HEN LAYING 2 EGGS AS NORMAL, THEN 12 DAYS AFTER THE SECOND EGG, : : SHE LAYS ANOTHER? WHICH IS FILLED. BECAUSE I HAVE CHECKED. AND NO, ANOTHER HEN HAS NOT LAID AN EGG IN HER NESTBOWL. THIS VERY SAME HEN DONE THE EXACT SAME THING LAST YEAR. BUT I REMOVED THE EGG THEN . IF I LEAVE HER TO RAISE ALL 3 EGGS, WILL SHE BE ABLE? ie MILK? SOFT MEAT CONDITION? :
THE FIFER Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 THE EGGS WOULD HAVE TO HATCH TOGETHER IE A DAY BETWEEN AT THE MOST,
Tony C Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 It was mentioned in the chat room lately, a hen that laid 3 eggs but they didn't mention the timeframe between 2nd and 3rd egg. On the other hand it could be a big cuckoo doing the rounds! :o :)
carl Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 i have also had this happen but the three eggs were out within 4 days,i asked older members of my club was this possible and they said i must have been another hen but all the hens in the loft at that time were sitting two eggs.very strange it got me thinking, all three eggs were full
slatey Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 Hi all the only way you can keep this egg is to float it under another pair that laid at same time if its of a good pair bonus. tomo
THEMAN Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 The same thing happened to me this year (first time breeding) I put a hen together with a cock that one 1st place in a racing pigeon show. I had two eggs then three, I thought this was odd especially for a first time laying hen. The next few days a fourth egg was present. The 1st place winning cock was apparently a 1st place winning hen. lol. I dont feel bad given the fact that even the judge thought it was a cock. I seperated them and mated them with two other "confirmed" cocks and one is already on eggs and the 1st place one is about to lay(or so it seems). I have heard from the older flyers that it is possible for 3 eggs but most that I spoke to get rid of one of the eggs. Hope this helps. Tony
maverick Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 sapper you have had birds long enough to know the time diffrence is to long for the hen to still produce milk. LOL
MsPigeon Posted February 27, 2006 Report Posted February 27, 2006 I had a hen lay three eggs this year as well, first time I ever seen this. But the third egg was very tiny. Carol
Mike Lycett Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Rose Agree - our best Stock hen has laid 3 this time in her 2nd round. Got me fingers & thumbs crossed ................... ;D Mike
jimmy white Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 yes ive had this , this year for the first time in 50 odd years [that i know of ] i thought it had to be another hen lay in that box, but for the few pairs i keep, for stock, sure enough, there was one extra egg, but i took it away, and let them sit on two.
Chris Little Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 We have had 3 hens laying three eggs in a nest this season , it happens a few times a year for us..... however still to experience all 3 eggs hatch....
Chris Little Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 It often varies Fifer, the 3rd egg would sometimes be a day or two behind the 2nd one or in some instances maybe a week, the later normally resulting in the first two being blank and the 3rd full...
