I think we will only get limited inland racing and can't see us getting any young bird racing. My plan is carry on as normal but breed as few young birds as I can. Single young bird for each pair just before racing, as I can see most being culled. that's not something I relish.

If the Dutch reports are true, as seems to be the case as its backed up by an article on the home page, then the same case can surely be argued with other EU partners.

Posted elsewhere, the current science shows that banning racing pigeons won't make a blind bit of difference to the world-wide spread of avian flu.

No more than ours bruno when we race with the internationals

Sorry Rose, thought Mealybar was talking about crossing the North sea? Thought you raced south & west, do you race east too?

I AGREE WITH THIS SHADOW,WE ARE ALL HOPING THIS AND THAT, BUT IN THE TRUTH OF IT ALL I THINK WE SHOULS COUNT OURSELF LUCKY TO GET ANY RACING, AND AT LEASED IT WILL KEEP THE BIRDS ON THE GO, NOT TOO SURE ABOUT TOO MANY COMING NORTH THOUGH, (CLASHING)

I'M A WEE BIT FURTHER NORTH THAN THAT POMPEY, OVER THE FORTH. IF UR BIRDS BOTHER ME FROM THOSE POINTS THEY ARE GOING THE WRONG WAY, GOOD RACING AND ALL THE BEST, HOW IS IT DOWN AT POMPEY, EASTNEY BARRAKS NOW GOING AS A MUSEUM NOW, THEY TELL ME, BUT POMPEY DOCKYARD STILL ON THE GO,

There is a museum still at Eastney barracks but the rest has been refurbished and turned into luxury flats, even the old water tower. The Dockyard is part museum but they have actually started ship building again albeit sections of the Type 45s./ If you log on to www.seaportsmouth.co.uk you can get live webcams of Portsmouth harbour. The Harbour mouth view looks towards the liberation site on Southsea common near trhe War Memorial. Best of luck to you in your racing and I might be seeing your birds at Portsmouth. Gunwharf Quays is built on the HMS Vernon site.

Nor even Next year ...worst case scenarios 3,5,7,10 years until AI is deemed ok ... An area must be clear for 1, 3, years still depends on what the EU classify pigeon as in AI

In Scotland I asked the Minister responsible for AI policy would pigeons be confined or further measures ....wouldn't rule out a cull ...i have this in black and white. Media hype and public reaction would inform his judgement methinks

VFTR 4th April pretty encouraging, appears DEFRA want to negotiate rather than dictate ; Comes at a good time as I had emailed Peter Bryant last week with the evidence / references that pigeons don't spread AI.

Hope Confederation / FCI put a good case forward for racing into UK from AI-free countries on mainland Europe.
